Resident Evil Veronica: All the Details Confirmed by Producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi 🪽
During a Q&A session with the press, producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi revealed key information about the project, its development, changes, and creative philosophy:
🔹 At the private presentation, Capcom showed a chronological video that reviewed the series from the RE1 Remake, through RE2, up to Leon’s journey in RE4 and Requiem. It then included footage from the Dreamcast version of Code: Veronica to highlight its age and historical significance.
🔹 It was emphasized that, just as Leon has his own journey, Veronica is the essential continuation of Claire’s story after surviving Raccoon City. Furthermore, this installment was defined as a key work, just as important as the numbered titles, as it marks the meeting of the Redfield siblings and the pivotal return of Albert Wesker, serving as a central point in the franchise’s narrative.
🔹 Development is being handled by the same team that created the Resident Evil 2 (2019) and Resident Evil 4 (2023) remakes, distinct from the team behind Requiem, led by Kazunori Kadoi and Yasuhiro Anpo. They began working on this project after completing the main phase of the Resident Evil 4 Remake.
🔹 Resident Evil Veronica will be in third-person: Although the reveal trailer was shown almost entirely in first-person to surprise everyone, the full game will be exclusively in third-person (the first-person scene does not represent the gameplay, and some scenes will play out differently or may not appear in the final game).
🔹 Style similar to Resident Evil 2 (2019): The core gameplay will be based on strict resource management, tension, and survival, just like in the RE2 remake, and will not lean toward the more action-oriented style of RE4.
🔹 The introduction was modified because, according to the team, it makes more sense for Claire to go to her brother’s apartment in Paris first before infiltrating Umbrella’s facilities directly. What was shown in the trailer isn’t necessarily the definitive opening.
🔹 Much more will be revealed about Claire’s motivations and personality, highlighting her strong sense of humanity—the trait the creators value most.
🔹 Claire is not Leon: Although the team is the same one that made RE2 and RE4, the gameplay with Claire will be different.
“If we did exactly the same thing with Claire, I think she would seem too superhuman. That’s why we want to show how a realistic, down-to-earth Claire survives in a truly desperate and lonely situation.”
🔹 Effects such as dismemberment and bullet marks on bodies have been confirmed, on par with the most recent remakes.
🔹 Why was “Code” removed?: To align with the series’ current naming convention (such as Village or Requiem) and position it as a main entry. The story is key: it continues the events of Resident Evil 2 and 3, follows the journey of Claire Redfield and her brother Chris, and brings back key characters like Albert Wesker.
🔹 The meaning of “REV”: These letters appeared in the trailer, and many believed they referred to Resident Evil 5: “I was expecting that question… but the answer is no. There’s already a game called ‘5.’ The thing is, when you reverse ‘REV,’ it becomes ‘VER,’ the first three letters of Veronica. It’s a little trick we wanted to include.”
🔹 The story takes place three months after the events of Resident Evil 2. Claire is still a survivor searching for her brother Chris, but she has matured following her experiences in Raccoon City.
“It’s not like she’s become a government agent or anything like that, but her experiences changed the person she was in RE2.”
🔹 Many scenes, pacing, character development, and key moments will be restructured and rearranged, but without removing original content. Capcom analyzed what fans liked most in order to preserve it, balancing players’ memories with modernity. The narrative will be adjusted to better align with what has been told in the remakes and recent games.
🔹 The story remains centered on Claire Redfield, with a key role for Chris Redfield and the return of Albert Wesker.
🔹 Regarding the masked character who appears at the end of the trailer, Hirabayashi did not confirm whether it is HUNK nor did he provide details, but instead invited fans to discuss and come up with their own theories.
🔹 Length: “We don’t believe that ‘longer = better.’ We want to offer a satisfying experience, with balanced and well-crafted content.”
🔹 Although the game is still in development and some details remain to be defined, the main goal is to delve much deeper into the story and the characters’ psychology. In the case of Alfred Ashford, the focus will be on psychological horror: the game will explore how love taken to the extreme breeds darkness within him, a central theme of this installment. Additionally, players will learn more about the lives and pasts of the inhabitants of Rockfort Island, showing what life was like before the virus outbreak.
🔹 You don’t need to have played the original to understand and enjoy the story: “You can play it without having played the first one. But if you’re familiar with the series, you’ll enjoy it even more.”
🔹 Influence from other titles: They’ve drawn lessons from Resident Evil Requiem and recent installments to improve quality, usability, and detail, while maintaining the unique identity of this story.

🔹 On a Claire amiibo: Although it’s not directly up to him, the producer would love to see one: “I’d like to have a Claire amiibo. It would be great if it were next to Leon’s.”
🔸 He was also asked about Dino Crisis:
Hirabayashi: No comment... though I know the answer (laughs).
“The team is working hard to make this the best experience possible. We hope you’re looking forward to playing it” — Yoshiaki Hirabayashi.
