After months of meticulous legal planning and deliberations, the Ren Foundation is finally live!
The Foundation is an independent, ownerless, and non-profit Cayman foundation - and is a huge step forward for the project as it begins to legally separate from @AlamedaResearch $REN

More details will be published soon about the new foundation. In the mean time, renproject.io is currently down but is in the process of being restored as part of the transition.
Alameda is also storing RenVM assets in cold storage in the event of a systems shutdown:

The DAO and The Ren Foundation now have a suitable framework in which they can work together for the mutual success of the project going forward.
This was one of the biggest hurdles to overcome following the failure of Alameda to fulfil its contractual obligations to Ren.

Given the poor legal correspondence & co-operation from Alameda, the Ren Foundation was only possible because of our outstanding community willing to make it happen (and the brilliant legal minds advising the project).

The foundation (and the legal protection it provides) will give Ren 2.0 the safe, compliant framework in which to operate (and therefore Ren's products and services).
As Ren 2.0 moves towards full decentralisation, this compliance and protection will be extremely important...

This transition towards a Cayman foundation has been long and legally complex, but nevertheless an essential one.
With Ren 2.0 on the horizon, it is absolutely vital to ensure that the project has a safe, legal and regulatory foundation in which to conduct itself going forward.
