A recent discussion about the Oakland A’s attendance during the span of 1988-92 got me curious to take a deeper look at the figures & make a thread🧵 Let’s dig into the numbers & have some fun!
Lemme help. Haas owns the team 15 years. During the peak. Fans mostly rejected the team. 11th place being the most rank during that time…and a 12th. In 88 when the team won 104 games…FOURTH in the ALWest. The Twins pulled 3mil 2x in this era…the A’s? 0. Despite having the largest yard seats wise, the A’s were behind the Blue Jays by millions during the A’s peak. That is what happened.

Because I’m not interested in X premium, this is really hard to follow in the posts and replies to my replies. To make it easier, I posted the whole thread on one of my websites tubbsandmoresports.blogspot.…

1993-Injuries & old age catch up to the A’s who plummet to an ugly 68-94 mark, finishing dead last in the AL West

Sadly, a variety of factors after this lead to the A’s never again reaching the lofty attendance numbers of 1989-92 Thank you for reading!

Attendance drops to 2,035,025 & puts Oakland back to 11th in attendance, the same ranking it held each season from 1983-86 but w/roughly 700k more fans than those years & also within sight of 8th place

Toronto captures its first WS. The 89-win O’s become competitive again & move into a beautiful new park—a combo that nets them amazing attendance. The 86-win WSox & their still shiny park draw just above the A’s while the Twins, fresh off their 91 WS are close behind
26
Attendance drops but is still an impressive 2,494,160 & slots 4th in the AL.
17
Attendance drops slightly to 2,713,493, slotting 3rd in the AL—behind the Jays & the WSox, the latter of whom became a contender again in 90 & moved into a new park for 91. Those 2 factors helped spike WSox att. The A’s led the West early & contended into mid-Aug before fading
