Some thoughts for creators on
@drip_haus:
1) Your #1 goal is to build a tribe. 10 super fans > 1000 kinda fans. Use DRiP as a way to engage, rewards, and have fun with your tribe.
2) It doesn’t matter what something sells for. Truly. It will work itself out over time. The conveyance of your work is a starting point for a relationship with a collector. If someone gets something really special for $5, that’s great, you’ve given them an opportunity to be early. Nothing worse than leaving an auction sitting for years with a reserve that will never be met, the whole while wondering if anyone likes it which leads to burn out. Find a collector at a market-discovered price, reach out and thank them, invite them to your collector chat, and keep building.
3) Supply is a myth. Your goal is to generate demand, not control supply. Setting a Legendary to 5 or 10 or 100 supply, it doesn’t matter, it’s arbitrary. Use rare collectibles as a tool to move collectors from kinda fans to super fans.
4) You are more important than your work. Contrary to what you might think, DRiP is actually not about your art or content. It’s a vessel to tell people about you. What you care about, what your goals are, what your talent is. Give me bad content from good people over great content from bad people everyday.
5) Have a vision. What are you building towards, where do you want to go, what does someone acquiring your collectibles or giving back mean to you? How do collectors know you will be creating in 10 years?
6) Be realistic. Only the top 0.1% percentile of creators, on DRiP and off, can sustain a life creating. It can take years or decades of creating to build towards sustainability. Find a day job. It’s a marathon, not a sprint.
7) You don’t absolutely need to create every single week. You should create when you are inspired. Collectors can tell when something is rushed. You’re not under the gun. Just push back a snapshot or let people know you need more time. I promise it will be ok.
8) Invest in your creative process. One of my favorite things to see is creators taking their earnings and buying an iPad, a 3D printer, a new camera. In fact, I love to know as a collector if that’s what your payouts are going towards. I want to know you are working towards producing your very best.
9) Collaborate often. It helps you cross pollinate your fans, it’s fun, and gives you a lot to talk about on the timeline. Many of our creators love to do it. Just DM!
10) Please don’t shill in the replies or DMs. I have spoken to most of DRiP’s top collectors. I don’t think I’ve ever heard of someone enjoying this. In fact, it’s a massive turn off. There are plenty of other ways to get their attention: making something badass, doing something they’ve never seen before, collaborating, etc.
