As you see on the lux meter below, outside on this day, the lux or brightness of sun is around 78,000 (783x100 on the meter) Inside by the window the lux is around 1500 (151x10 on the meter) This is better than nothing but nowhere near the optimal power nature designed your body to function with over the course of a day....tens of thousands of lux less. Go deeper inside your house or office under artificial lighting the lux is only 329! Thats about 78,000 less lux than you would get if you were outside in nature during the day! When you get this level of darkness day after day after day, your body clocks slowly desynchronize and lose efficiency and coordination which means the time it takes for you to get a disease SPEEDS UP. For good health, you must make your days bright and your nights dark.

Many people are now aware of the health effects of specific color spectrums of light Isolated blue light = eye strain Infrared light = therapeutic Fewer people are aware that how bright your light environment is has an arguably even greater impact Light brightness is measured in units called lux Indoor light from an open window typically ranges from 1000-5000 lux, while in the center of the room it can be as dim as 25-50 lux Indoor artificial light typically ranges from 50-500 lux In comparison outdoor light ranges from around 1000 lux on a cloudy day to as high as 120,000 lux in direct sunlight This means light outside in the sun can be a full 120x brighter than indoor light! Bright light is what entrains your circadian rhythm, it creates the morning spike in cortisol, dopamine, and glutamate that wakes you up and starts the process of synthesizing melatonin that will be release 12 hours later when you go to bed Most people completely invert their circadian rhythm by leaving the lights turned off all day keeping their home dim until the sun sets, then turning on every light in the house This tells your body it's noon instead of midnight and completely suppresses melatonin release

ATTENTION DOCTORS: DAYLIGHT IS LEGIT THERAPY Prescribe it to your patients. "The use of intense daylight (at least 4000 LUX, reflecting a sunny day outside) in conjunction with quiet and dark nights in hospitals could represent a future strategy to restore circadian rhythms and to benefit the overall health of inpatients". If your patients cannot go or be taken outside or near a window then you can prescribe an artificial light like the one I recommend below.

To maximize life extension, minimize light extension. Artificial light extension destroys the natural sunset to dark signal and extends melatonin suppression (through increased melanopic illuminance) hours after sunset. This is not good for things like obesity, heart disease and cancer prevention. Light extension does not help with life extension. If you are going to do light extension at night, mitigate the brightness and wavelength as much as possible. Low lux and more towards the red. In general use incandescents or some of my night light recs on my amazon page at the link in my bio. Definitely wear blue light blocking glasses (my top 7 listed in the first reply below) if you are unaware of the type of photons coming out of your lighting.

CICO doesnt matter if you eating dinner in the dark, bro. 🚨 Eating dinner late is sabotage for your metabolism even if calories stay the same. This Johns Hopkins study had everyone eat the exact same meal and go to bed at the exact same time. Only difference? Dinner at 6pm versus 10pm. The late dinner in the dark caused blood sugar to spike 18 percent higher on average, fat burning to drop 10 percent overnight and stress hormone cortisol to rise. Early sleepers suffered the most with blood sugar jumping up to 30 percent higher and fat burn falling 20 percent. Over time obesity and diabetes risk rises. Eat when the sun is out. When the sun goes down your fork goes down.
