Problem is most ‘fans’ aren’t open to ideas that differ from their picture of what things should be. They won’t judge it on its own merits but compare it to other renditions instead.

Stormare is absolutely one of the greatest modern depictions.
Tim Curry in Legend would be my favorite classic depiction.
Tom Ellis in Lucifer deserves a mention as well.
