Original stand rule was bad. Coaches find ways to counter it. AFL add layers to stand rule to counter coaches. Here we are. Players and umpires confused. Ridiculous 50's sucking life out of games.

AFL umpiring-a thread. 1. The "stand" rule is the biggest abomination ever to grace our once great game. It looks stupid. It sounds stupid. Umpires randomly pay 50 m, but not consistently. A player standing at 90 degrees to the kicker like stuck in cement is ridiculous. #AFL

6. The AFL. No accountability for poor decisions. Only concerned with revenue. Don't care about the game, just $. Run by absolute muppets that have a disdain for the common footy fan. Wild card? It's a top 10. Round zero? Absolute farce. Footy can be great. Right now, it isn't.

5. Soft free kicks for forwards (except Tom Lynch). Phantom "chopping the arms, arm around the waist, etc. etc." are being paid - no doubt to increase scoring - meaning more ads - meaning more money. Why would you be a defender? You have ZERO tools to defend.

3. Holding the ball. I don't even know where to start - it is PAINFULLY INCONSISTENT. Anybody watching last night's Richmond vs Melbourne contest would have thought the rule was only for one team. Four umpires. No consistency. So frustrating.

2. Below the knees contact. This rule was brought in to protect a player when somebody slides in FEET FIRST to potentially cause damage. Now, a player, first to the ball, HEAD first, is penalised when another player falls over them. They are NOT at risk. Fix it.
