Something I discuss often with our students. Patient with a concussion. Not a concussed athlete.
Use person-first or identity-first language as appropriate for the person being discussed. The language used should be selected with the understanding that disabled people’s expressed preferences regarding identification supersede matters of style. #RelentlesslyPositive

I’m really excited for this series on inclusive language! Stay tuned daily for a helpful graphic on suggested alternatives for patient care, research, and teaching!
The month of April will highlight the American Psychological Association Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Inclusive Language Guidelines. The AATE is sharing in hopes to guide learning on the topic for AT students to be culturally proficient communicators. #RelentlesslyPositive

Believe me I know what it’s like being short staffed but I would never approve this salary package just to get another body in the door.

The word doctor comes from the Latin word docēre, meaning “to teach.” How do you know when you’ve transcended master level and become a doctor? There are likely many signs. One might be that your desire for someone to learn something eclipses your desire to be right.

Athletic trainers are licensed or otherwise regulated to work with active people to prevent, diagnose and treat injuries and medical conditions including cardiac abnormalities and heat stroke. Don't confuse with personal trainers, who focus primarily on fitness. #APStyleChat
