Organometallic chemistry lab @ Reed College studying large KIEs, air-free glassware, & dirt catalysis. Student run, content from our fearless leader signed Mir
Calcea Johnson and Ne’Kiya Jackson made waves in 2022 when, while still in high school, they announced a new proof of the Pythagorean theorem. They’ve now published several alternative proofs of the theorem in today’s issue of American Mathematical Monthly. tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.…
Do you know a new or soon-to-be Ph.D. who likes organometallic mechanisms, undergrad research, & the Pacific Northwest? We have a postdoc position available in the Bowring group at Reed College! tinyurl.com/postdocwithmir Here's me with both rockstar past postdocs:
We had SUCH an amazing time hosting @BowringGroup for the @uoadse Diversity Lecture Series this past Friday! Inspiring chemistry, wonderful talk, and an amazing scientist to know. All the attendees loved both the research and career talks!
Grateful for this opportunity to host @BowringGroup as the first @uoadse Diversity Lecturer of the 2023-2024 school year. Join us this Friday to hear about their work on overcoming kinetic barriers in chemistry and insights into overcoming social barriers in science!
"Juneteenth in STEMM and the barriers to equitable science"
This commentary in yesterday's @CellCellPress focus issue, written by 52 Black scientists, uses Juneteenth as a lens to discuss racism in science and offer steps to take to reduce it: cell.com/cell/fulltext/S0092…
ALT “Juneteenth recognizes and celebrates freedom, civil rights, and the potential for the advancement of Black people in the US. Yet, it also serves as a day of reflection and hope that a nation might someday live up to its core founding principle - equality for all.” - Mays et al.
Excited to share the @BowringGroup’s latest paper & my first postdoc publication! Congrats to the Pt squad on this undertaking 🍾 Learn how we used common kinetic techniques to interrogate a large KIE, soliciting an exciting new mechanistic finding!

Congrats to group member & kinetics researcher extraordinaire, Nicole Xu, on her first ever talk at an ACS meeting! Incredibly well communicated science from our ✨rockstar rising senior🎸 #ACSFall2022
I am extremely horrified and frustrated about a recent racist incident involving a Reed faculty member. We as an institution need to take accountability for his actions and fully acknowledge the hurt he has caused to our community members.
This situation is horrifying. I do not represent Reed, but myself and my other colleagues of color are determined to not let this situation take up more space. We are strong, our voices are loud, and we will eclipse this. Reed has rushed to support us.
Alma Hayden, a black chemist at the FDA, used IR Spectroscopy in the 60s to prove the controversial drug Krebiozen could not cure cancer and was merely creatine. Elevate black scientists by highlighting her work in your intro class and use this case to show the power of IR spec
