It's crazy that literally the only "americanizing" of the CFL that happened yesterday was moving to a 100-yard field and the goalposts to the back of the endzone
I have a very unique perspective as a Canadian that has worked in American football for over a decade (and only recently did we start CFL) and I'll say this. The goalposts in the front of the endzone is goofy. People who don't know CFL turn on games and see that and think its silly. Because it is.
And it's very easily proven that it affects how teams play the endzone!
The game is still 12 men aside. It's still 3 downs. It's still 65 yard wide fields. It still allows the waggle. It still has the 1-yard neutral zone. It still doesn't have fair catches. It still has old school kickoffs. It still has the ratio. It's still Canadian.
It's fair to be scared of the CFL americanizing. I don't want that. Nobody wants that. But this isn't that. Yeah, if down the road they start to change any of those core rules, I'll be pissed. But they haven't yet, and they have made zero suggestions that they will. Anyone saying that this is a precursor to that is simply projecting because we simply don't know.
I like the NFL. I like college football. They are different games. I like the CFL. It's still a different game, moreso than any other football league has ever been. I really hope everyone gives these rule changes a chance. Every sport makes changes to adapt. Canadian football shouldn't be any different.
