Yo Brainrot Nomads 🫶🌇 Roadtrip Arc – #330: Sunset Dinner with the Best View in Zagreb 🌅🍷 After a fantastic lunch and lovely walk around Tkalčićeva, we wanted something special for the evening. We headed to the highest and most beautiful spot in Upper Town: **Strossmayer Promenade** (right next to Lotrščak Tower). This promenade is famous for its breathtaking panoramic views over the entire city, the red rooftops, Zagreb Cathedral and the Sava River valley. As the sun started to set, the light turned everything golden — absolutely magical. We found a lovely terrace restaurant with a perfect view, ordered some local wine, fresh food and just sat back to enjoy the moment. Ape is loving the view (and the food), Oma says this is one of the most romantic spots we’ve been to, Brainrot can’t stop taking photos, and Laika is happily chilling beside us. This is exactly why we love these spontaneous moments on the roadtrip. Nothing beats watching the sun go down over Zagreb with good company and great food. Nomads, have you been here? What’s your favourite sunset spot in Zagreb? Or where should we go tomorrow? Yo Brainrot Nomads 🫶🌇 Roadtrip Arc – #329: Full Stomachs & Happy Feet – Exploring Around Tkalčićeva 🌿🚶‍♂️ Lunch at Mali Medo was an absolute hit! Everyone is full, happy and ready for more adventures. We decided to keep exploring the vibrant area around Tkalčićeva Street instead of heading straight back. This neighbourhood is full of surprises — colourful little alleys, hidden courtyards, street art on the walls, cute vintage shops and the most photogenic corners everywhere. We wandered past the beautiful old buildings, listened to a street musician playing accordion, peeked into a few artisan shops, and even found a small park where Laika could run around for a bit. The energy here is so relaxed and friendly — exactly the kind of afternoon we love on this roadtrip. Ape is in full tourist mode taking photos, Oma keeps saying how pretty everything is, Brainrot is trying to read every sign, and Laika is living her best life smelling everything. This spontaneous exploring after lunch turned out to be one of the best decisions today! Nomads, what should we do next? More walking? A coffee stop? Or something completely different? Yo Brainrot Nomads 🫶🌇 Roadtrip Arc – #328: Delicious Lunch on Tkalčićeva Street 🍽️🌿 After our fantastic morning walking tour through Upper Town, we were starving! @Kingsmikel027 suggested grabbing lunch around **Tkalčićeva Street** — and we went straight there. This lively pedestrian street is full of charm with its colourful buildings, music and buzzing terraces. We found the perfect spot at **Mali Medo**, a popular local favourite with a huge sunny terrace. The food has just been served and it looks (and smells) incredible — traditional Croatian grilled meats, fresh salads, homemade bread and local specialities. Ape is in food heaven, Oma is relaxing with a glass of wine, Brainrot is taking photos of every dish, and Laika is patiently waiting for a little treat. Thank you @Kingsmikel027 for the spot-on recommendation — this is exactly what we needed! 🙌 Nomads, what’s your favourite dish on this street? Any must-try spots or desserts we should order next? Yo Brainrot Nomads 🫶🌇 Roadtrip Arc – #327: Postcard #3 – Final Gems of Upper Town 🏛️🌇 The walking tour is wrapping up and we’re saving the best views for last! 📮 Top-left: St. Catherine’s Church & Jesuit Square – built in the 17th century with a stunning baroque interior and one of the most beautiful green-roofed churches in the city. The surrounding square feels like a peaceful hidden courtyard. 📮 Top-right: The charming cobblestone streets of Gornji Grad – these medieval lanes have barely changed in centuries. Every corner reveals another piece of history, from old townhouses to hidden passages. 📮 Bottom-left: One of the best panoramic viewpoints – looking out over the entire Lower Town, the Sava River, and the modern city skyline. On a clear day like today you can see for miles. 📮 Bottom-right: Golden hour in the Upper Town – the warm light hitting the historic buildings and red rooftops makes this area feel truly magical. This is why Gornji Grad is called the most photogenic part of Zagreb. What an incredible morning! Thank you again @BrainrotAddict for the perfect suggestion. Yo Brainrot Nomads 🫶🌇 Roadtrip Arc – #327: Postcard #2 – More Magic of Upper Town 🏛️🌿 The walking tour keeps getting better! Here are four more wonderful discoveries we made in Gornji Grad: 📮 Top-left: The Zagreb Funicular – opened in 1890, it is the shortest public funicular in the world at only 66 metres. For more than 130 years this little yellow carriage has been carrying people between the Lower and Upper Town. 📮 Top-right: Strossmayer Promenade – a romantic 19th-century walkway lined with chestnut trees and old street lanterns. It offers one of the most beautiful panoramic views over the red rooftops, the cathedral and the distant mountains. Perfect spot for photos and peaceful moments. 📮 Bottom-left: Banski dvori (Croatian Parliament) – originally a baroque palace from the 18th century. It served as the residence of the Croatian Ban (viceroy) and today is the official seat of the Government. Many important decisions in Croatia’s modern history were made here. 📮 Bottom-right: The Museum of Broken Relationships – a one-of-a-kind museum founded in 2010. It displays personal objects and stories from failed relationships sent in from all over the world. Funny, emotional and surprisingly touching – definitely a highlight of the tour. This historic area perfectly blends centuries of history with modern creativity. We’re absolutely loving it! Yo Brainrot Nomads 🫶🌇 Roadtrip Arc – #327: Postcard #1 – The Heart of Upper Town 🏛️✨ We’re walking through Gornji Grad and it feels like we’ve stepped into a living history book. Here are some of the most iconic sights we’ve seen so far on our walking tour: 📮 Top-left: St. Mark’s Church – dating back to the 13th century. Its world-famous roof, made of colourful tiles, depicts the coats of arms of Croatia, Dalmatia and Slavonia. For over 700 years this church has stood as a powerful symbol of Croatian identity. 📮 Top-right: Zagreb Cathedral (Cathedral of the Assumption) – originally built in the 13th century and rebuilt after the great earthquake of 1880. Its two neo-Gothic spires rise 108 metres high and have dominated the Zagreb skyline for centuries. 📮 Bottom-left: Lotrščak Tower – constructed in the 13th century as part of the city defences. Every day at noon a cannon is still fired from here, a tradition that started in 1877 to signal midday and remind people of the old Turkish invasion warning. 📮 Bottom-right: Stone Gate (Kamenita vrata) – the only surviving medieval city gate from the 13th century. Inside you’ll find a small chapel with a miraculous painting of the Virgin Mary that survived several devastating fires. Locals still come here to light candles and pray. This historic quarter is full of stories, beauty and atmosphere. We’re completely hooked already! 📮 Postcard from Oma – Croatian Desserts & Wine at Hotel Le Premier 🍰🍷❤️ Nomads, the dinner was incredible and the desserts took it to another level! Croatian cuisine is famous for its sweets too. Kremšnita is the most iconic cake in Zagreb — layers of puff pastry with rich vanilla cream. Fritule are small fried doughnuts, often served with honey, walnuts and raisins. And of course the wines… Croatia has some of the best indigenous grape varieties in Europe (like Graševina, Malvazija and Plavac Mali). Top left: The famous kremšnita — light, creamy and addictive. Top right: Warm fritule with honey — pure happiness. Bottom left: Croatian wine tasting — we tried both local white and red.
