Mission of Brazil to the World Trade Organzation and Other International Economic Organizations in Geneva (WIPO, UPOV, UNCTAD, ITU, ITC, South Center, UNECE)
On 9/28, the Brazilian Mission participated, in Geneva, at the invitation of UNCTAD, in a high-level panel on the outcomes of the last BRICS summit (Johannesburg, 8/23), alongside permanent representatives from South Africa, Argentina, India, Egypt, and Iran.
The Permanent Representative of Brazil to the WTO and other economic organizations in Geneva, Ambassador Guilherme de Aguiar Patriota, presented his credentials to the Secretary General of the ITU, Doreen Bogdan-Martin, in September 26.
They discussed the role of the Missions in Geneva to support the organization and the opportunity for joint work on digital economy issues on the occasion of the Brazilian presidency of the G-20.
Ambassador Guilherme de Aguiar Patriota highlighted Brazilian society's high adherence to digital tools and expressed the expectation of adapting the country's representation, by increasing the participation of Brazilian nationals in the ITU staff.
Yesterday, the Mission of Brazil in a partnership with ApexBrasil organized a WTO Public Forum panel to discuss social inclusion and sustainability in the Amazon. The panel featured speakers from the Brazilian and Colombian governments, Brazilian company 100% Amazonia and UNCTAD.
Following the panel, the Brazilian Mission, with the support of ApexBrasil, promoted a reception with Brazilian drinks and cuisine. On the occasion, Ambassador Guilherme de Aguiar Patriota highlighted Brazil's commitment to eliminating deforestation in the Amazon by 2030.
Speakers explored the relationship between protecting the Amazon rainforest and promoting opportunities for local communities, women, small businesses and indigenous peoples.
They also examined the potential for international trade to encourage a sustainable exploitation of products tied to forest biodiversity and to improve standards of living for the local population.
The Permanent Representative of Brazil to the WTO and other economic organizations in Geneva, Ambassador Guilherme de Aguiar Patriota, presented his credentials today, September 6, to the Director-General of the WTO, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.
They also discussed the organization's negotiating agenda in the coming months, with a view to achieving significant results at the upcoming WTO Ministerial Conference in February 2024, in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
Ambassador Guilherme de Aguiar Patriota expressed Brazil's expectation of making progress in agriculture negotiations for the benefit of exporting countries and reiterated Brazil's commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

They agreed on the indispensable role of UNCTAD in promoting global sustainable economic and social development, working in coordination with developing countries and in forums such as the G-20 and organizations like the WTO.
Ambassador Guilherme de Aguiar Patriota expressed his commitment to strengthen Brazil's engagement in UNCTAD, particularly in areas such as investment for development, industrial policies, agriculture and food security, energy transition, renewable energy, and biofuels.
