That time my Thanksgiving story was trolled on the floor of the Senate.

Sen. Tom Cotton: "Just today for instance The New York Times called the [Pilgrims'] story a myth and a caricature. In the Food Section, no less. Maybe the politically correct editors of the debunked 1619 Project are now responsible for pumpkin pie recipes at the Times as well."

Quick thread, but please indulge me. In Aug 2021, my book “Across the River,” about a New Orleans high school football program in a city besieged by gun violence, published. Big @Todayshow piece. Smokehouse Pictures got film rights. @nypost & @latimes named it a best book of '21.

Minnesota cops said they cannot accept a potential ban on white supremacist affiliation in POST certified officer ranks, cuz it will hurt recruitment. Please let that sink into your every consideration of each and every city/police budget conversation.

both devin chandler and lavel davis were my students. devin was in my class in spring 2022, and lavel is in my class this semester. I am so indescribably sad right now but I wanted to share a few memories of them, because they were wonderful people

One question before I go: Are all grocery stores out of tater tots, or just the Whole Foods on Broad Street? Asking for a friend.

Latest Wolves: Last night's embarrassing blowout was just an expansion, not an outlier, of a season pockmarked by arrogance and indolence. minnpost.com/sports/2022/10/…

RIP. He was a genius.
My father, Peter Schjeldahl, passed away today peacefully of lung cancer. He will be buried privately. In March there will be a memorial service honoring his life and work. My mother and I are grateful for all the messages and will be in touch when we can.

1/3 Beautiful obit by @mgsledge in @NOLAnews abt Billy Sothern, dead at 45. There is so much trauma in the work Billy did unflinchingly every day for more than 20 years, representing death row defendants in the Deep South. He was a legend in New Orleans. nola.com/news/article_ddc75e…

Today the @nytimes is publishing the first two installments in a series called "Profits Over Patients." It's about how tax-exempt hospitals have strayed from their charitable missions for the sake of fatter profits – with profound consequences for the US healthcare system. 🧵
