I’ve seen a lot of exciting work in VR at #CHI2023 and I take the chance to share our #ieeevr2023 paper on audio feedback in VR for blind people. It’s often an afterthought, but a well thought (from the start) audio design can ensure blind people are included in VR experiences.

My lab is developing tools for making all game genres accessible to blind gamers. Racing games were an important first step, but we are now tackling 3D adventure games and much more. NavStick lets blind players look around & explore 3D game worlds: ceal.cs.columbia.edu/navstic…

I was going through major impostor syndrome while I did this project during my PhD. I wondered if I was cut out for research and if anyone would find this type of work interesting. I followed my heart anyway because I loved it so much. So awesome to see a community forming! ❤️
