Better yet, avoid completely.
If you're planning to buy a Safaricom 5G router, here are a few tips you should know:
1. You need to buy both the router and a data package of your choice. Keep in mind that the packages are not truly unlimited—they come with Fair Usage Policies (FUP). If you're a heavy internet user, make sure you choose a larger package.
2. Avoid buying a router that isn't Huawei. In my experience, the other models can be problematic. Some people are attracted to them because they come with a built-in battery, but that shouldn't be the deciding factor. The Huawei router, like the one in the picture, is the best option.
3. Make sure your home has good network coverage. If you live on the ground floor or in an area with weak signal reception, you may experience slow speeds and connectivity issues.
4. Buy the router directly from a sales representative if possible. It will be much easier to get support if you run into problems. Calling customer care can take time, and you may not always get immediate assistance.
5. Ensure the router is configured and tested at your home, not just in the shop. A router that performs well at the store may deliver much lower speeds once installed at your location.
