When one of the UK’s most iconic transport hubs required a critical structural upgrade, our team stepped up to deliver. 🚂 We were contracted to execute the full-scale replacement of the pedestrian bridge spanning Platforms 1 and 2 at Paddington Station. Our team executed everything from the removal of the original Victorian infrastructure to the final commissioning of a permanent replacement that honours the station’s historic aesthetic. 🔹 The Challenge: The logistics of replacing heavy infrastructure in a historic, high-traffic hub required surgical precision. While yes, we were building a bridge, it was far more than that. We were playing with part of the original 1854 Isambard Kingdom Brunel heritage structure (a career highlight for any bridge builder!) Working within a Grade II listed environment meant the new design had to perfectly mirror Victorian aesthetics while meeting modern safety standards. With a full blockade of all lines in and out of Paddington, any slippage carried massive financial and operational risks for Network Rail. 🔹 The Solution: To deliver a seamless transition, we provided a complete turnkey service centered around a brutal Christmas blockade schedule. While London celebrated, our teams were on-site for 52 hours of continuous, back-to-back shifts, ensuring the project moved every single second of the day. By engineering a plate girder and steel transom structure that exactly matched the 19th-century original, we ensured the heritage of this iconic station remained intact while the infrastructure was modernised. 🔹 The Results: By bridging the gap between historic craftsmanship and modern engineering, we ensured Paddington Station continues to serve thousands of commuters daily without interruption. Despite the high-pressure environment, we completed the project with one full programmed shift remaining - beating the deadline and delivering ahead of schedule. The heart of the Great Western Main Line was back in action! This project is a prime example of how we bridge the gap between historic infrastructure and modern solutions. A weekend in Llandudno, transforming local active travel. This past weekend, we successfully installed two new active travel bridges for our clients Jennings Building & Civil Engineering Limited and Conwy County Borough Council at the RSPB site in Llandudno. This complex installation was the result of a seamless, collaborative effort across our procurement, drafting, fabrication, transport, and operations teams. 👷 The Engineering Challenge: The new walking and cycle route took shape as a steel truss spanning 30.7m long and weighing 29.5 tonnes, requiring installation over the Conwy Valley Railway line. To ensure a safe and successful delivery with minimal disruption, our team engaged in months of detailed negotiations with Network Rail and executed the project during a strict weekend window. 🚚 The Integrated Delivery: By managing the entire lifecycle in-house, we ensured that every millimetre of the 4.85m wide structure was accounted for, from the first draft to the final lift. We can proudly claim yet another project completed on time and to the highest safety standards, expanding active travel routes in North Wales. A big thank you to everyone for working hard this weekend! "Those who say it cannot be done, should not interrupt those doing it.’’
