He should actually lead this field from a good barrier and take some running down. Had a very soft trial yesterday. Good second behind WFA horse Gringotts says he is up to this. Age might be against him though? Trifectas?
One at good odds in the Stradbroke is ESTADIO MESTALLA. Not saying it's a super winning chance but Blinkers go on and the last time that happened it led and won @ $61. Blinkers came off in November and he won @ $21. Third up he is 3-3/7 and has a miserable 0-1/8 record second up.
Have to have a peanut on SHA OF GOMER R2 E/Farm on Saturday. First three runs of prep he is 0/19. Fourth up he is 3/4. He really likes inside barriers and gets barrier 2 in this race. Got exposed early in the straight last start and his run was okay. Weight the issue but 100-1?
I don't understand how ROPE THEM IN can be $31 in The Quokka. I took $18 a couple of days ago because I thought that was enormous value for a horse that is 7-1/8 on wet tracks. And was only beaten 1.5L in the Winterbottom last year on a dry track.
Looks to be a lot of speed in the Colac Cup today which should give KHOR it's chance from an awkward barrier. For a horse that doesn't win often his 3/3 fourth up in preparations looks significant. Not a horse I have had much luck with though and value is questionable.
R9 Flemington TANGANYIKA has some handy form in NZ highlighted by beating First Five home Jan 10 last year. That horse won the G1 Sprint last week. Also has form around Lord Penman and the promising Sweynesday (5-3/8). No idea about how it's going though off long break.
Just could not afford to get that far back on Cosmic Crusader. Another masterclass by Willie Pike on a horse that has never won beyond 1200m, and hasn't got a great record at that trip either.
It has looked quite leaderish today at Ascot so Overpass is going to take a lot of beating if he is anywhere near his best. Not much good to me though.
For what it's worth I've taken both Luana Miss and Rope Them In for The Winterbottom. R7 Drakaina was impressive last start racing wide the whole race. Let's Talk in the last is 2/2 first up.
Add to that the Quokka which I think has been run three times over the same track and distance? Jokers Grin last year barrier 13. Overpass the other two from barriers 6 and 8.
Can't believe what I'm seeing re the winning barriers in the Winterbottom. You have to go back to Ortensia in 2011 to find a horse that has drawn in the inside half of the field that won. Even back to 2010 nothing has drawn inside barrier 5 and won.
Deary me one thing I didn't mention in my preview. What an absolute travesty Cosmic Crusader didn't get a run in today's Railway. He has bolted in R6 and was probably prepared to peak in a G1 race.
My look at this years Railway Stakes which is now probably my favourite race of the year to analyse. Historically it's probably the most reliable one to predict. brisburghphil.wordpress.com/ā¦
Surely wins the race on form alone, age etc. He appears to be a better horse than last years winner and stablemate Port Lockroy. The barrier seems to make his task very tough though. $15 to find out seems generous.

Annabel Archibald was successful in the G1 Railway Stakes last year and the team are aiming to do it again in a test of Depth Of Character.
