Anyone interested in taking these 43 Fair Isle Bird Reports & giving them a new home? A friend is having a big sort out & would like to give these reports, dating from 1976 to 2019, a new start. They can be collected from north Norfolk. DM me if interested. Thanks Mark
The end of autumn is approaching, so I had an 8-hour thrash between Horsey Village and Waxham pipe dump. Waxham Sands was the best place with Yellow-browed Warbler, 3 Chiffchaffs, and 2 Blackcaps, plus a good smattering of migrant Song Thrushes and Redwing along the coast.
It's been a pretty successfull weekend. After getting the Booted Eagle yesterday, I found this fantastic Pallas's Warbler on my patch at Waxham today. Bloomin' marvolous!!!
Hi UK, here they come!
Huge start of bird migration from the Waddensea westwards. Currently an bird migration traffic rate of 9000 birds per km per hour. Enjoy ๐
It's not going to win any photo competitions, but when your luck is in, you can't complain. This is the dark-phase Booted Eagle in the Thames Valley near Henley today. Jammed in on it as driving along the valley and 3 biders had just located it!
Delighted to find this juvenile Woodchat Shrike on St. Mary's, Scilly today. It really set the pulse racing when I saw how grey it was, but the rufous hue to the nape, thick bill and large (but not massive) white primary patch all point to Woodchat rather than Masked.
The Grozzas are coming!
Pine Grosbeaks have arrived in Oslo and I reckon we are going to have a big movement on our hands this autumn. All the birds I had today were heading south west although one did stop briefly for a photo.
Absolute mega pelagic off Scilly today. We had a raft of 1,000 Cory's, which included a few Scopoli's and 30 Greats. Here's some of the Cory's, with some Greats to follow...
A good start to the day, finding this Wryneck on Peninnis Head, before heading off on another fruitless Nighthawk chase on St. Martins. Another try for Nighthawk at Porthelick this evening was fruitless, but did provide Shelduck and Great White Egret.
Really bad video of White-winged Scoter on #Shetland today. It's been around for a couple of weeks at least, so it's just as well someone took advantage of the good weather today and had a better look at it!
Hopes of a 'grip-back' were dashed when the Caprimulgidae on Yell #Shetland initially identified as a Common Nighthawk, was reidentified as a European Nightjar. Still - the best Nightjar I've ever seen and a Shetland tick to boot.
You don't usually see Snow Buntings sat in a tree and grotting around in your garden, but this is #Shetland and you can expect the unexpected! A few migrants starting to arrive on the SE winds this evening - let's hope there's birds to be found tomorrow!
1/2 Had a great morning around Aith, #Shetland today. Fab view of adult Rosy Starling and then this fine Golden Oriole. Little did we know, when tucking into our 'Cake Fridge Cafe' lunch, things were about to get a whole lot better in the shape of...
Scotland's first ever Eastern Crowned Warbler near Sandness, #Shetland . First found by Paul Harvey, Dan Pointon (and @RogerRiddington ?), it proved to be quite tricky, moving slowly through the willows, but with a bit of patience, it gave good views.
