Over the last few weeks, several DP World Tour members have expressed concerns to me at the new proposed “track” system on the PGA Tour that could effectively relegate the DP World Tour to tier 3 on the ‘global pathway system’. None of these players would speak publicly, but Eddie Pepperell said he has similar concerns on the latest episode of the Chipping Forecast podcast: “The concern, and this is going to be dependent to the changes that come on the PGA Tour, is that the DP World Tour isn’t just the Championship, it’s actually League 1. “Because if we lose these players to tier 2 on the PGA Tour, then the DP World Tour are really getting no benefits because these players aren’t going to gain great visibility going to America playing the Texas Open, where they would if they were playing the Memorial, but they’re not going to have access to the Memorial. So depending on the changes that come their way at the PGA Tour, I think the DP World Tour is going to have to seriously reconsider these players and the amount they go across.” He also added extra context: “That being said, we’ve had this conversation it seems every year, and the next year we’re talking about new talent. So the conveyor belt of talent within Europe and around Europe is still very strong and also you’re seeing players like Sami Valimakki coming back from the States because although they’ve had some success, they don’t actually love it over there and that’s a common theme and story I keep hearing. “So it’s going to be very interesting to see how many of those players would go across to play in America if they’re not having access to play in the very biggest tournaments. Because some of them might decide, ‘you know what, I might keep my lifestyle in Europe because I prefer it so much more.” Over the next few months, the professional golf landscape is about to change significantly and the knock on effect will impact every major tour in the world. @PepperellEddie @DPWorldTour

There were rumours in media circles yesterday that LIV Golf UK at JCB may be in doubt. I’ve sourced this and can’t find any substance to it at this stage. The club are continuing as normal, equipment has been shipped and an official called it “laughable.”
Executives hit the market with LIV Golf 2.0 last week, framing it as “built by the players, for the players.” It has an emphasis on player ownership, an increased schedule utilising national opens, but reduced purses. The schedule consists of 10 team events, and 8-10 national opens, with 5 “team majors” and 5 “team signature events”. The “majors” are to be played on 5 continents in line with the most successful events: Australia, South Africa, UK, Hong Kong and Mexico. And the signature events are to be hosted predominantly in the US, around the 4 major championships. The purse sizes is fluid and dependent on the new investors. From an extensive amount of sourcing, I expect them to be $15 million for 5 events and $10 million for the rest. With a potential weighting that distributes more money at the top of the leaderboard. A well placed LIV Golf source said: “We are very confident future purses will be above DP World Tour levels and player take home will be in line with the PGA Tour.” From sourcing within player ranks, the purse sizes are, obviously, one of the most important factors impacting their commitment. Several players suggested to me if the purses fall in line with the DP World Tour they probably wouldn’t stay. But at $10-$15 million it’s a different proposition. More clarity is needed though on both LIV Golf’s future and the new structure of the PGA Tour to get a better picture. I’ve spoken directly to at least a dozen players who told me they are fully committed to LIV Golf, and if it exists, they will be there. Bryson DeChambeau is leading that charge and it’s understating it to say he’s committed. He desperately wants LIV Golf to succeed and to build a global golf league that’s built for the 21st century. He’s thinking long term and his enthusiasm is truly infectious. But a big question is what will Jon Rahm do? It’s difficult to get any real feel of it as he didn’t do media outside press conferences. But he did answer my question on whether he was taking a similar role to Bryson in trying to secure investment and he replied, “I am not, no.” The full quote is on my timeline. I was told, however, that Jon had encouraged other players to avoid reading the media because of the amount of misinformation. There was also a Legion XIII hospitality area, where the GM, Jeff Koski, was hosting current and potential future partners while offering Imperial Gran Reserva, the Rioja that Jon served at his 2024 Masters Champions Dinner. The players will be given equity in the league itself or team franchises to encourage them to stay, further committing those taking this option to the success of the league’s future. The majority of the media rights will be returned to the players. Giving them the opportunity to build their own online brands on socials and sign personal partnerships. The size of the fields is unclear at this stage, but the shotgun start will continue, so the possibility of adding 2 more expansion teams to take the league to 15 franchises (60 players) would likely be top end. I fully expect them to utilise the Asian Tour pathways to fill many of the open spots, especially if players leave. That would help further appease the OWGR concerns and increase the ability to build their own stars. But sources were also confident they could attract established names with potential equity in the league. Multiple sources indicated that Fox Sports are ready to sign a new deal with LIV Golf as soon as the league is ready. LIV Golf are also working with networks on a potential broadcast model that incorporates TV viewership with YouTube and social media in an attempt to unlock revenue streams across digital IP. I’ve spent several days going back and forth through notes and transcripts, sourcing information the best I can. I think even in these early stages as they take LIV Golf 2.0 to market this is as fair and accurate of a representation as I can offer. Let me know your thoughts in the comments 👍

I see how it is, LIV Golf has a successful event at a World Class Venue (Valderrama) that everyone is obviously talking about. Flush reports from site the reality of LIV Golf the golf media is not reporting. Then newest PGAT marketing partner comes out with a report citing "sources" from a LIV Golf vendor (NOT A LIV GOLF EXEC) and instead of going and asking the same people Flush talked too, that new PGAT marketing partner doesn't follow the journalists code of ethics and reports a one sided story and it gets re-posted on every PGAT marketing partner and golf news outlets without verification because that's what they do with negative LIV reports. If Flush got people to talk to him then that PGAT marketing partner should have gotten them to talk too. But wait, if he would have gotten the LIV people to talk then there is no story, clicks or re-posts. He better hope his "sources" are correct, if not EVERYONE will know how that report came about. In 7 weeks we will know. That reporter just put his entire reputation on a report from a vendor because he decided he wasn't going to follow the code of ethics.

LIV Golf Andalucia Final Thoughts: 1)With spectacular and historic Valderrama producing a Major Championship level test, brand new father Tyrrell Hatton held on to beat his close friend and teammate Jon Rahm to claim his 2nd LIV Golf Individual Championship! 2)Real Club Valderrama is truly the greatest golf course on the LIV Golf schedule, in my opinion slightly ahead of Sentosa in Singapore. It is one of the greatest courses in Europe and it really stood up to the test this week! Only 15 out of the 57 golfers finished under par on the week! The course isn't very long but requires great shot making abilities, with that being evident by which golfers rose to the top of the scoreboard! The leaderboard also looked like a Major type of leaderboard, and it was extremely pleasing to watch! What a course and what an event! 3)Hatton missed last week after the birth of his daughter, and I wasn't sure that he would make it to this event either. But wow did he ever show up!! What a week as he was under par every round! On 18, with the pressure of Rahm being close, Tyrrell made a nice recovery out to the trees and then hit an amazing flop shot to seal the deal! A deserved champion! Tyrrell has been so close at winning his first Major and maybe the time is coming soon?! I hope so! 4)It is evident and obvious how much this course and this tournament means to the Spanish golfers. 3 Spanish golfers finished in the Top 5, and young Luis Masaveu had a great tournament finishing in the Top 20! The only Spaniard that didn't play well was uber talented Josele Ballester, who had a horrible week. Maybe his power was too much for this shot maker course? 5)Rahmbo started off the week with a rough 73 in Round 1, but he was the best golfer on the course over the last 3 days, shooting 67-68-67 to get right back to the top. On Hole 15 of Round 4, Rahm hit a phenomenal tee shot that came within inches of an ace! The crowd pop was massive and it amazes me the kind of shots these guys can hit with that much pressure on the line! Once again, though, Rahm wasn't able to win at the course that he so desperately wants to win at! He has now finished 2nd here multiple times! He wants it bad! 6)Going into the final round, the 4Aces held a HUGE lead in the Team Competition, but they absolutely fell apart on Sunday with a team 11. Legion XIII was the only team in the field that shot under par as a team on Sunday and they came storming back to win once again on the LIV Golf league! After the Crushers set a new record with their 10th team win last week in Korea, Legion now won their 10th to tie back again for the all-time lead! This team has been a force from the beginning and seem to have great team chemistry. Even when Surratt are struggling individually, it is evident that they keep battling for the team! 7)It's hard not to feel gutted for Thomas Detry, who during this Major Championship season has had so many close calls on qualifying and has come up short in all of his chances. He's barely outside the OWGR cut-off, he lost a playoff during the US Open qualifying to miss out on a spot, and then going into the 4th round of this tournament he was in prime position to qualify for BOTH the US Open and The Open Championship via the LIV Golf exemption... but a really rough Sunday knocked him out of both of those spots. Joaquin Niemann now claimed the exemption for The Open after Detry dropped down. Even with this disappointment, Detry still rallied to finish 5th, and he has been a great addition to the league this year! 8)The love affair between Sergio Garcia and Valderrama is unbelievable. On the broadcast they mentioned that this is the 18th Top 10 in 19 career tournaments at this course, including 4 wins! And once again this week, Sergio was right there in contention and finished 4th! Sergio and Hatton were the only 2 golfers to be under par in all 4 rounds! At 46 years old, Sergio continues to impress and he's in 10th on the Season Long standings. His hard work and longevity are amazing! 9)The round of the week belonged to Dustin Johnson, who in Round 3 shot and unbelievable 7 under 64, which, as Mike McAllister pointed out, included a 1,2,3,4,5 and 6 on his scorecard! I'm sure that hasn't happened very often if golf history! DJ continued his much continued improved play, as did the rejuvenated Cam Smith, who both finished tied for 5th! Cam had one crazy tournament as he couldn't find the fairway and yet at times was leading the tournament at greens in regulation. From 150 yards and in, it is tough to find a better golfer in the world than Cam! As I've said before, the golf world is better with DJ and Cam playing well! 10)Well, LIV Golf is entering into a 7-week mid-season break that could be the most important 7 weeks in LIV Golf history. The entire future of the league is most likely to be determined during these 7 weeks, with investor meetings happening and future plans being laid out. Flushing It Golf has been laying out what he has been hearing as the future plans for the league, with 5 team majors and 5 signature events and reduced purses. He even mentioned that a lot more match play might be introduced, which would be awesome. One thing that might be a tough reality is that there is a chance that this was the last event here in Spain, at least for now. Flushing It reported that the the 5 "Team Majors" might be played in Australia, South Africa, Hong Kong, England, and Mexico (5 different continents), with the 5 "Signature Events" being played potentially in the USA built around the Major Championships. Not sure how I feel about it all, but I sure hope LIV Golf continues and that the best players in the league, especially Bryson and Rahm, stay in the league. Investors, in my opinion, have a great product here that has so much potential! Before LIV Golf tees it up at JCB in late July, there will have been 2 Major Championships played (Go LIV Golfers!!) and potential answers on if LIV Golf will continue or not. Thank you all for reading! Hope to check in with you with good news over the next few months! #LIVGolf

This is an awesome stat and I would suspect that this hasn't happened very often in the history of golf! What a round by DJ!
DJ's 7-under 64 scorecard at Valderrama consisted of six different numbers 1 (ace at 3rd hole) 2 (birdie at 6th hole) 3 (7 different holes) 4 (6 different holes) 5 (1 par, 1 bogey) 6 (1 bogey)

Teammates Talor Gooch and Harold Varner III of @officialokgc both bounced back with 67s today (tied with Rahm for low rounds of the day) to vault up the leaderboard and to take OKGC from 10th all the way up to 4th after Round 2 at LIV Golf Andalucia!

Since switching over to Claude Harmon III as his new swing coach, Cam Smith is looking more and more like his old self. He finished T7 at the PGA Championship, was in contention for most of LIV Golf Korea, and now has looked great (T4) after 1 round at tough Valderrama! 🔥💪

DJ's @4AcesGC_ are better than ever this year! Not only are they leading the season long team standings, but all 4 of them are individually in the Top 20 for the season! Detry - 5th AK - 6th Pieters - 12th DJ - 19th What a rebound year it has been for the Aces! #LIVGolf

Another great opinion shared by @JCAGOLFReport. One of my biggest complaints about this year has been the lack of pre and post round shows and I agree that @MattVincenziPGA would be the prefect host for those! Bring them back LIV! Those were awesome!
One of the biggest problems with the top 2 tours/leagues in pro golf is that they don't listen to their fans. They are set in their own ways and no matter what the fans, influencers, golf journalists, and independent golf journalists tell them, they continue to act in the same way. One of the biggest failures of LIV Golf has been its comms, that's widely known. You would think that 5 years into it they would have figure it out. Nope, they haven't and they won't listen to anyone's suggestions. It has been a comedy of errors one after the other. There is a simple fix, they know it but for some reason they won't do it. If they can't fix that, then who's to say they will fix even bigger problems. It's not complicated, a simple google search tells you why it's so important to know your audience/customers: "Knowing your customer is crucial because it allows you to personalize experiences, build deep brand trust, and create products that directly solve their problems. Instead of wasting resources on broad, ineffective strategies, understanding your audience ensures smarter, highly targeted operations." Take for example the case of Matt Vincenzi. He has been and continue to be underutilized by the comms dept. All LIV Golf fans want a pre and post show with Matt and other collaborators, everyone loves his picks of the week takes and no one in-house at LIV Golf (apart from players and teams) has more influence with fans in social media than him. But LIV for what appears to be "economic reasons" has chosen to leave him covering this week event (once again) from back home while other people at LIV that are a LOT less valuable, highly overpaid, and have absolutely no connection with their fans are flying to Spain's Costa del Sol to enjoy a week at Valderrama while acting like they are working and not producing anything of value to the fans or the league. They are leaving back home their most fan influential member of their comms team for "economic reasons" because they couldn't find any way to cut $5-10K in any other tournament allocation expense for the week or didn't want leave someone less influential back home? Really! Every week the LIV Golf comms team makes a mistake. Last week it was how they dealt with the cancelling of some of their APP functions. On top of that they released such a bad written press release/email to their subscribers that it was laughable. A recently comms graduate could have come out with something better. And that is a reflection of their leadership starting at the top of the comms/marketing teams. Each tournament week LIV Golf finds a way to push farther away their own fans and lessen or take away from their own product, it's unbelievable! In the future there will be marketing or comms case studies about this, that's how badly this has been managed. @ScottONeil @chrisheck76

LIV Golf Korea Final Thoughts: 1) In an event that featured much bigger and more energetic crowds than last year's tournament, Joaquin Niemann outlasted Talor Gooch in a playoff battle between 2 of LIV Golf's biggest success stories! 2)Joaco is now an 8 TIME CHAMPION on the LIV Golf League and it was great to see him back on top! Love seeing the enthusiasm from his wife as she ran onto the green to jump on him after the win, and then seeing Joaco's backflip after! No matter of LIV exists next season or not, the story of LIV will not be able to be told without talking about the great Joaquin Niemann. His 2nd shot on the playoff hole was pure class! 3)I somehow felt a little nostalgic seeing Gooch battling with Joaco. Talor is also such a massive part of LIV Golf history, and with the current state of the unknown of LIV's future it just felt right seeing these 2 guys at the top of the leaderboard! 4)Bryson Dechambeau gave it a great run on Sunday and came up just short individually, but he and his Crushers teammates came out on top for their record 10th LIV Golf team title! Australian Travis Smyth filled in for Paul Casey and was great and finished in the Top 10! 5)After back to back 70s to start the week, DJ fired 64-66 over the weekend to storm back to finish 4th! His game had been looking better and better lately and that's a good thing for golf and for LIV! 6)Cam Smith faded down the back 9 on Sunday, but he spent most of this event near the top of the leaderboard and his game is looking shockingly improved ever since his switch to Claude Harmon. Cam is one of my favorite golfers and the golf world is a better place with him in form! 7)I continue to admire the galvanizing spirit amongst the golfers ever since the announcement of the ending of the PIF funding. The vast majority of these guys love this league and absolutely love their teams. If LIV survives, I think the defiant spirit of these golfers will be the reason why. I think investors will notice this and will be impressed by it. 8) this was such a great and beautiful looking golf course and the crowds really showed up to support this year! I know the modern trend is to take trees out of golf courses, but I think that these courses like this one are just so much more beautiful! And the course really stood up to the test and was a worthy host! Korea is such a growing market for golf and it was awesome to see much bigger crowds this year! During the round, Rachel Drummond interviewed LPGA Hall of Famer Inbee Park, and Park mentioned that she had been to many tournaments in her life but that this LIV one was a great, special, and different atmosphere. There is a place for LIV Golf and I'm really hoping and optimistic that it will survive. 9)The realization that the Any Shot Anytime feature was removed from the app as part of the strategic new plan for financial viability was a hard blow for many LIV Golf fans. I personally didn't use that feature much, but plenty of my LIV Golf fan friends loved it. As is the case with many things in LIV history, the communication was not good from LIV about this one. I understand the need to scale back, but some of these changes are going to be tough pills to swallow. I just feel thankful that the awesome broadcast team that we have had for so many years, especially Arlo, Jerry, David, Su Ann, and Rachel, are still there and still giving us such a great broadcast. 10)I'm excited that LIV is heading to Spain for one of the greatest events of the year on one of the greatest golf courses in the world! I hope the Spanish fans show out this year and help make this one one of the great events like it should be on the tour! #LIVGolf
