"Satchel Paige had a very, very good fastball...... But the first time I faced Satchel, he threw me a little breaking ball, just to see what I could do, and I hit it off the top of the fence. I got a double. When I got to second, Satchel told the third baseman: 'Let me know when that little boy comes back up.' Three innings later, I go to kneel down in the on-deck circle, and I hear the third baseman say: 'There he is.' Satch looked at the third baseman, and then he looked at me. I walk halfway to home plate and he says: 'Little boy.' I say, 'Yes, sir?' because Satch was much older than I am, so I was trying to show respect. He walked halfway to home plate and said: 'Little boy, I'm not going to trick you. I'm going to throw you three fastballs and you're going to go sit down' and I'm saying in my mind: 'I DOOON'T THINK SOOOOOO. If he threw me three of the same pitch, I'm going to hit it somewhere. I turned to the catcher and asked: “What does he mean?” Catcher told me: “He’s going to throw you three fast balls. Nothing else.” He threw me two fastballs and I just swung..... I swung right through it..... And the third ball he threw, and I tell people this all the time, he threw the ball and as he let go he said: 'Go sit down.' This is while the ball was in the air. Yes, he struck me out with three pitches. He was just magnificent." 17 year old Willie Mays facing Satchel Paige for the first time.

I’ve had this program for 29 years, got SRL to sign it. “Sorry Ray, I know this isn’t your favorite fight, but it hold a special place in my heart because my dad took me to it” “You saw me struggling, why didn’t you jump into the ring to help” 😆😆😆

Hey, Champ! If you have credible evidence, documentation, witness testimony, or other reliable information suggesting corruption, bribery, fraud, abuse of authority, or any other unlawful conduct involving a WBO official, I encourage you to present such information to the appropriate law enforcement authorities, including the FBI or other agencies with jurisdiction, so that it may be properly reviewed and investigated. If you believe you have been unfairly denied opportunities by another sanctioning body, you may wish to consult with an attorney experienced in boxing to evaluate your situation and advise you regarding any rights or remedies that may be available to you. Additionally, I encourage you to review the WBO Regulations, which are publicly available on the official WBO website. The regulations are accessible free of charge and can be easily reviewed from any mobile device or computer. All the best.

The legacy and positive impact of Tony Cesay was too expansive to sum up in a few hundred words. That said, I did my best for this month’s issue of @BoxingNewsED R.I.P to a grass roots legend.x

With profound sorrow & deep respect, we honor the life and legacy of Lawrence N. Brooks, who passed away at the remarkable age of 112. As the oldest living ‘American World War II Veteran’ at the time of his passing, represents one of the final living links to this generation.

In 1992, Roger Ebert married Chaz Hammelsmith while friends raised quiet eyebrows and colleagues made their usual predictions. Nobody gave them five years. The years passed, and they proved everyone wrong. Then, in 2002, cancer arrived. Surgeries took his jaw, then his voice, and finally his ability to eat or drink. The man who had spent decades sharing his thoughts lost the very tools he had always relied on. Chaz stayed. She travelled with him to interviews, screenings, and public events. She read his notes aloud. She finished his sentences. For seven years, she became the voice he no longer had, quietly ensuring the world still heard what he wanted to say. Roger Ebert died on April 4, 2013. Chaz was holding his hand. He looked at her one last time and smiled. A colleague later said what Roger believed: Chaz didn’t just complete his sentences. She completed him. Many love when life is easy. Chaz loved through surgeries, setbacks, and years that tested them both. She stayed when ordinary life became impossible, showing up every day without asking for credit. Cancer took much from Roger. But it never took the person who kept showing up beside him. And in the end, that mattered more than anything else.
