The first Apple Macintosh went on sale on this day in 1984. We don’t have one of the very first ones but our Mac Classic is still going!

#OnThisDay in 1968, Douglas C. Engelbart publicly demonstrated the mouse. It was a device that he had been thinking about and working on for more than a decade. computinghistory.org.uk/cgi-…

Have some amusement on a Monday morning: A friend made a lunar lander game which hooks into the Windows copy dialog "While running, the app will detect all windows copy dialogs and paint a game overlay on top of them while they are focused." github.com/Sanakan8472/copy-…

Enormous thanks to the Lobb family for a substantial donation to our fledgling computer museum, including this magnificent Acorn BBC A3000 from 1990. This was one of the first computers with an ARM RISC CPU, the ancestor of the chips found in most phones today.

Good news! We also have the Acorn monitor. Bad news, it seems to have some vertical hold issues 🤔 But the actual machine seems to be working!

No school computer collection would be complete without a BBC Micro, the mainstay of 1980s computing education. And thankfully ours now has one!

Made the glorious discovery that our department museum Mac Classic is the posh model with a (gasp!) 40MB hard drive, and it still boots (unlike the floppy-only ones that we need to get boot discs for). Found the right keyboard and mouse too, so it’s complete!

For looking at the internal components of computers, the venerable Power Mac G4’s quick-release hinged side panel and super-clean internal layout is hard to beat 👍 (Should probably dust it, though…)

Restore and rebuild historically significant computers? We do that. Take EDSAC: little information remains on physical construction or engineering so our team has worked from old photos, documents and surviving parts instead... #STEM #edutwitter #sciencetwitter #bletchleypark
