AGI is an amorphous concept.
If we want a non-arbitrary, rigorous benchmark for AI capability, we need to stop looking at AGI and start looking at recursive self-improvement.
From a pure risk perspective, this should be our sole focus.

I enjoyed our panel on legal responses to AI existential risk with Michael Ramsden and Simon Goldstein, chaired by Dean Xi Chao at CU's interdisciplinary conference on AI safety. Our related MJIL article on systemic AI risk is here: lnkd.in/gTVNdgGr

Given the challenges we now collectively face, the resources we are wasting on this is utter madness.
Chart comparing living things and AI based on the standard characteristics of life-it shows that #AI only meets energy use and response to stimuli.
"Organized structure," "Development," "Reproduction," and "Death" might, however, be redefined, bringing this to 6/8
Chinese #universities are now firmly established among the world’s elite, with #Tsinghua University and Peking University both ranking in the global top 15 - a consequence of China’s massive state investment in higher #education and #research
Global AI investment, by country
We've already lost control of AI. We're now locked into to its development by the sheer force of geopolitical competition.

With #Brazil, #Russia, #Canada, and #China controlling over a third of the world's #freshwater, these nations hold immense geopolitical leverage as #water scarcity intensifies globally. This control could become a massive bargaining chip in trade negotiations.
