It’s fascinating that there’s someone out there giving a volatile anaesthetic (at any dose) alongside a dose of propofol that is FULLY adequate for TIVA. 90mcg/kg/min is a maintenance dose for most adults >50yrs, certainly. 140mcg/kg/min is excessive even for TIVA.

In healthy unanesthetized volunteers, norepinephrine increased arterial pressure but decreased the cerebral blood flow. Cerebral blood flow was correlated with cardiac output, not arterial blood pressure. Read more: ow.ly/fEfL50QUKcB

It’s finding helpful notes like this in the remifentanil bin that remind me that hospital pharmacists* haven’t a $&@¥ing clue what we do in anaesthesiology. *(the overwhelming majority)

I have no idea. But what I *do* know is that so long as there are nurses counselling patients after breast cancer surgery, there will ALWAYS be this particularly tosh phenomenon in medicine.
What’s one thing we are currently doing in healthcare that we won’t be doing in 50 years?
