For decades, Dan Patrick has sold out the poor, the sick, and the vulnerable to enrich his donors. Love feels like blasphemy when you worship power.
Texas Lt. Governor Dan Patrick says James Talarico is “going to Hell”: “I’ve never seen so much blasphemy from anyone running for office… He’s going to Hell, for sure.”

Governor Abbott closed out his speech at the Texas GOP convention with a live elephant. It then peed on the floor as it left the room. The perfect metaphor for the Texas Republican Party.

I want to be calm and clear: This will impact every American who is not a multimillionaire. One accident. One bad day. One diagnosis. That’s all that separates most people from needing the social safety net they spent their entire lives paying into.

I’ve been thinking a lot about the extraordinary outbursts of the President of the United States against female journalists... well, actually against journalists in general and journalism. But it feels like he saves his most childlike behavior and irrational language for female reporters, calling them all kinds of names that kids in kindergarten are given times out for. It’s stunning to me to witness such behavior from any leader, any CEO, any person of influence or importance. I’ve never witnessed someone like this raging, this weekend with @meetthepress host @kwelkernbc, just last week in the Oval Office with @cnn’s @kaitlancollins, calling women stupid or piggy, telling them to “smile”, calling them darling, demeaning their credibility. Every good man should denounce this behavior. Every person should be able to stand up for their colleagues and say “No more.” Imagine this man screaming like this at your daughter, your wife, your sister, your mother... would you stand for it? No, you wouldn’t! And neither should any of us. It’s unacceptable and undignified. Period. End of story.

To everyone dumping gold right now: You are selling on one rule. Real rates up, gold down. It worked for a decade. Then it broke. Real yields at 2.2%, a fifteen year high. The model says gold near 1,000. It trades at 4,480. Because rising real rates on a sovereign that cannot pay its own interest bill is not bearish gold. It is the most bullish setup gold has. Default, or print to cap yields. Both bullish. There is no third door. The thing scaring you out is the thing setting up the next leg. The selloff is the buy signal. Full thesis, and why June 17 is the tell:

I have not used this forum to talk politics in a long time. If I lose followers for this, I don’t care. I’ve been to Omaha Beach. To Point du Hoc. To the Normandy American Cemetery. Our Defense Secretary using this occasion to score cheap political points is despicable.

An appropriate post from Zelensky on the anniversary of D-Day. Nothing from Trump. Which is appropriate, since Zelensky is a fighter against tyranny, unlike Trump.
Today is the 82nd anniversary of D-Day – the Allied landings in Normandy, which significantly hastened the countdown to the Nazis' collapse in World War II. It is one of the most important moments of unity among the defenders of life in human history, and it was less than a year until the peoples’ aspiration for freedom and the hope of peace prevailed in May 1945. It happened then. We are working to make it happen again today. And although yesterday in Petersburg another cynical order to continue killing was issued for the army trying to destroy our freedom, history has seen this before. The Nazis also had their own hopes after D-Day. But freedom still wins. And even in the darkest circumstances, people find ways to come together to protect life. I thank all those who are now helping to protect the values that prevailed in World War II. I thank everyone who is defending life. Glory to Ukraine!

Best explanation of the Iran War I’ve seen yet. I mean the Iran Not-a-War.
The Iranian navy, which has been destroyed eight times, has apparently closed the Strait of Hormuz again, because the United States, for the seventh time, won the war that wasn’t a war, so now the United States has to open the Strait of Hormuz that was already open before the not-war began. The not-war began because Iran had uranium that was totally, completely, beautifully obliterated, so they can’t build the nuclear bomb they weren’t building, which is why the United States had to start the not-war it definitely didn’t start. Now the United States, which has nuclear weapons, is threatening to use nuclear weapons to stop Iran from getting nuclear weapons, because nuclear weapons are far too dangerous for countries with nuclear weapons to allow other countries to have. If the United States saw the United States doing what the United States does in other countries, the United States would invade the United States to liberate the United States from the tyranny of the United States.

Trump has just destroyed the US beef industry. No country in their right mind is going to import US beef. After Trump cut funding for Screwworm monitoring programs, the dangerous flesh-eating parasite has been found in US cattle for the first time since 1966.

People who continue to blame New World Screwworm crisis on the Biden Administration need to stop The Secretary has had 15 months to prepare a competent response, and despite what some are saying, the response has been lackluster and unserious Let’s go over some facts: In order to eradicate the NWS, we need somewhere between 500M-600M sterile flies produced WEEKLY, and we currently produce 100M weekly There are current mechanisms and technologies that could be deployed IMMEDIATELY in order to produce those numbers that have been ignored by the USDA for the past 6 months The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) which oversees the NWS response is a disaster. There were some competent veterinarians interviewed during the transition willing to serve and reform the bureau who were blocked by the Secretary and her team. Instead they decided to retain the same director from the Biden Administration (ironic) who botched the response to the Avian flu The tick rider program (people on horseback looking at wildlife and livestock in desolate areas) is completely disorganized, so the “surveillance” mechanisms that continue to be touted are not sufficient enough to detect these infestations in extremely rural areas in the timely manner required to combat this On top of all this, producers in Texas are being pressured NOT TO REPORT potential cases, and if it wasn’t for some brave people reporting on this current case in LaPryor, it’s possible it would have been covered up NATIONAL EMERGENCY DECLARATION NOW
