I've now seen ~half a dozen sites share this claim. It's not true and never was. In January, "Don't Stop Believin'" was certified 18x platinum, tying Post Malone/Swae Lee's "Sunflower." Two weeks later, "Sunflower" was certified 20x platinum. The RIAA website is free, folks

Do what you want with your money; if buying multiple copies of the same album to boost its chart performance makes you happy, go for it. I can't afford that, nor would I want to participate in it, because to me these artists (regardless of genre) are just generating waste
