We've asked @megasley and @BrindonMwiine why they are in Kisumu. It's because we've convened the biggest bitcoin Lightning Developer Bootcamp in Africa! 🤯🤯 @FreeRoutingAf @GorillaSats @AfroBitcoinOrg #kisumuLNBootcamp #bitcoin #Kisumu 1/2
✅ Day 3 of our Lightning Developer Bootcamp in Kisumu, Kenya. Today was all about the Lightning Network. We explored how Lightning works under the hood, covering payment channels, liquidity, routing, invoices, HTLCs, and the role Lightning plays in enabling instant, low cost Bitcoin payments at scale. Participants gained a deeper understanding of how Lightning extends Bitcoin and unlocks entirely new possibilities for payments and financial innovation. Of course, the learning didn't stop at theory. We got hands on, giving participants the opportunity to interact with Lightning tools and apply the concepts they had learned. We were also joined by some incredible guests. A special thank you to @BrindonMwiine for stopping by and inspiring the developers with his insights, experience, and encouragement. Shoutout to @colmwanga for showcasing what's possible when building on Lightning through real world products like Minmo, BitSacco, and Fedi. Demonstrations like these help bridge the gap between learning the technology and seeing its impact in the real world. Finally, none of this would be possible without the support of our sponsors. Thank you to @btrustteam, @HRF, @Tether_Africa, @Zone01Kisumu, @LakeHub @afribitcoiners, and @planb_network for investing in the next generation of Bitcoin and Lightning developers across Africa. 🚀

Wondering what #PintOfScience is? It's a festival for scientists and researchers to share with the world what they are working on in a fun and relaxing environment. So loads of 🍺🍺 to wash down heavy science topics

Quite an eyeopener by George Hanta, Research at @wrair Africa. His presentation - HERALDD - attempts to make sense of the peculiar Kenyan behavior of self-diagnosis and over reliance on over the counter pharmacy drugs.

One of the most sought-after sessions at #BuildFromHere2026 were the Parallel Technical Sessions. Think quick masterclasses. Two rooms running concurrently. Attendees chose their track and honestly, they couldn't choose wrong.

Track B, "DevSecOps Talent Pipeline for the Digital Transformation Era" was facilitated by David Njogu, Ph.D. His message was clear "Security is not a final step. It has to be baked into the build pipeline from day one."

At the heart of this year’s conference was a most significant milestone - we have graduated 76 apprentices, with 71 of them placed in jobs! (The remaining six are soon joining the job market🤞) #BuildFromHere2026 #Zone01Kisumu

#BuildFromHere2026's first ever Keynote speaker is @JessicaColaço, Co-Founder @iHub and Brave. Her keynote stresses the fact that infrastructure is catching up, and programmes like @Zone01Kisumu are proof that you don't have to relocate to reach your potential. @LakeHub

Our second keynote @NdigaJn has just shifted #BuilFromHere2026 conference with a hard hitting reality check! “In 2026, the average tech stack has a "half-life" of under 3 years. The tools you mastered yesterday are being phased out today.” #Zone01Kisumu #LakeHub
