While health care workers are on the front lines, death care workers also play an important part in the response to the pandemic. Their contributions are essential in tracking mortality rates, protecting the public, and helping grieving family members deal with loss. #pathassist

Pheochromocytoma: well-circumscribed, pink-red, & medullary-based mass. 10% rule: familial, bilateral, children, malignant, & extradrenal. Note residual adrenal gland parenchyma along periphery. Also super cute 🥰🥰#grosspath

When grossing oral maxilla/mandible specimens, knowing the difference between soft tissue and mucosal margins is important. When in doubt, have the surgeon orient you. Also make sure to note bone involvement. Use teeth to help orient. #maxillectomy #pathology

Glioblastoma. The gray-white matter junction can be helpful in identifying these ill-defined tumors grossly. The junction is more “blurred” when involved by tumor in comparison to non-neoplastic tissue. Intratumoral hemorrhage is also a common finding. @E_Heidi_Cheek #surgpath

(2/2) It's important to remember that small specimens still have a large impact on patients' lives (emotional/physical/financial stress of surgery). Clean, focused specimen photography helps care teams put an image to patients' health, and aids putting them at ease/educating them

1/2 Multiple things to note with this #placenta. 1) Placenta previa; the placenta is implanted low in the uterus, overlying the cervix- which can lead to severe maternal hemorrhage 2) Marginal cord; leads to the possibility for cord prolapse and subsequent compression/injury...

Colon cancer with attached segment of small bowel. When tumor directly invades other adjacent organs or structures it is a T4b. Always look for gross perforation. #pathology #grosspath #gipath

Clear cell renal cell carcinoma invading into the duodenum, adjacent to the Ampulla of Vater. This is a pT4 tumor since the carcinoma directly invades into adjacent organs. #RenalPath #SurgPath @BulawaMs @rondell_graham @E_Heidi_Cheek @Renalgal4ever
