When Mallam Nasir Ahmad @elrufai supported President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, he did so not because he was seeking a ministerial position. It was President Tinubu who invited him to serve in his administration, only to later change his decision. Mallam Nasir El-Rufai is a successful man by every standard of measurement and has no desire to remain in public office forever. As we celebrate Democracy Day today, I hope we remember Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, who has reportedly spent 116 days in ICPC detention following his criticism that President Tinubu’s administration has failed and that he should be voted out in 2027. I hope we remember that democracy guarantees the freedom of speech, the freedom of choice, and the freedom of association. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria!

They say the Nigerian political space changes everyone who enters it. But occasionally, someone bucks the trend. ​In a space where many lose their way, how did a man who led 35 Speakers and 35 Governors maintain the courage to be unapologetically blunt about Nigeria's challenges while preserving his core value system? ​The video below offers a compelling look into how HE Rotimi Amaechi did it.

A force of more than 100 Cameroonian gendarmes reportedly crossed into Nigerian territory in Danare Community, Boki Local Government Area of Cross River State. A clear border violation. Cameroon have in recent years shown outright defiance to Nigeria’s territorial sovereignty and dammed the consequences to carrying out all sort of intimidation and harassment of Nigerians. They do this because previous incursions have been met with little or no meaningful response from Nigeria. In January 2018 more than 80 Cameroonian soldiers crossed the international border between Nigeria and Cameroun and invaded this same Danare community in Cross River State, claiming they were fighting Cameroon militants who took refuge in the community. The gendarmes stormed their village and started shooting, sending people running for  safety. A year before in 2017 Cameroon soldiers numbering 50-100 invaded Danare village at 2 am in the morning, shooting sporadically and sending panic stricken villagers fleeing into the bush. This time they shot six residents and demanded the village head and some refugees. By the time they left in the morning they said their mission was to warn residents of Danare communities to be aware of their return to carry out a military raid. These audacious actions points to how weak the Cameroon government sees Nigeria and its security consciousness. Cameroonian troops have crossed into this particular community on four different occasions. Nigeria's response has largely been limited to maintaining a military presence in the area, without any retaliatory or punitive action.

DOGARA SPEAKS: Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has said former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar “solidly” supported Bukola Saraki in emerging senate president. He made the revelation in his biographic book, ‘A Reed Made Flint’ He further revealed that Atiku was the reason he also emerged speaker of the house despite the fact that national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu had put forth Honorable Femi Gbajabiamila as his candidate. If I don’t say this to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar’s credit I will not be fair to him. It will amount to travesty. At the time when most leaders in the APC were not showing sympathy to our cause, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar came out as one solid voice in support of both the candidature of the now Senate President (Bukola Saraki) and my humble self. “He said the North-East must have a position and it was his duty as a leader from the North-East to support that goal. And more so, because of the religious demography of Nigeria there was the need to have a Northern minority Christian in government as that would help to smoothen religious engagement and relationship in the North and put paid to the insinuation that APC was just a Muslim party." So how can such a man be linking to bigotry..
