ALT White text on a grey background that reads: We stand in solidarity with our colleagues and friends at @freedom_theatre, who were arrested and detained by Israeli forces. We are relieved to hear of the release of AD Ahmed Tobasi but we call for the immediate and unconditional release of Mustafa Sheta, Jamal Abu Joas and all others in unlawful detainment.
The Royal Court is shocked to learn that Mustafa Sheta & Jamal Abu Joas of @freedom_theatre have been arrested. We demand their immediate release.
Ahmed Tobasi was also arrested & has since been released. He is suffering injury as a result of being detained.
Full statement:
ALT The Royal Court is shocked to learn that Mustafa Sheta and Jamal Abu Joas - Producer and Theatre Graduate of The Freedom Theatre - have been arrested.
Ahmed Tobasi - Artistic Director - was also arrested and has since been released. He is suffering injury as a result of being detained.
We are also horrified to read of the attack on the theatre, destruction of offices and assaults on staff yesterday which followed the murder of members of The Freedom Theatre including Yamen Jarrar, Jehad Naghniyeh and Mohammed Matahen, and the arrest of hundreds of others in Jenin.
We demand their immediate release.
We stand together with our colleagues - the writers, artists and students - for whom The Freedom Theatre is their creative home.
We stand against the killing and silencing of artists and the destruction that cultural sites in Gaza and the West Bank have suffered in this war.
Today’s the day!
Sending all our luck and love to the cast, creative and producing team of Tokyo Rose at New National Theatre of Tokyo on their opening night.
We are so excited for you and cannot wait for Iva’s story to reach new audiences.
