#South #Africa plays host to eight different #biomes - savannah, albany thicket, desert, succulent karoo, nama karoo, fynbos, Indian Ocean coastal belt and grasslands. Field #guides must know and understand these biomes as you could well find yourself working in one of them!

This #WildlifeWednesday we're focusing on Cape buffalo 🐂 Cape buffaloes are social, moving in large breeding herds and smaller bachelor herds. 🐂Cape buffaloes have a bush named after them - the buffalo thorn. 🐂Breeding herds are lead by a female known as a "pathfinder."
The 18 July is celebrated in the name of Nelson Mandela, the man who brought South Africa into a free and fair democracy. 🌈 We're honoring his legacy by looking at our four future field guides, trained in collaboration between the SAWC and Bushwise. 🐾 #MandelaDay

It's #WildlifeWednesday we're looking at the southern ground hornbill. 🐦They are the largest species of hornbill we find in the Lowveld. 🐦They are a monogamous species meaning they form male-female pair bonds for life. 🐦Southern ground hornbills can live for up to 60 years!
