Great response to refresher training session for Butterfly Scheme Leads! A privilege to work with these amazing dementia care leaders.

The pandemic brought a pause in #hospital #dementia #care progress, but it shouldn’t be an excuse for lack of ambition now! In too many places, dementia care is now either no further forward than it was in early 2020, or is actually less good. We must keep expecting improvement!

A privilege to discuss #dementia care enhancement with @DrTWilliamson this morning; it always is. Great to see leadership that directly leads to benefits for people living with dementia, their carers and their local hospital teams.

I rarely tweet these days, but what an uplifting session chatting with the fabulous @DeightonJo47103 just now! Vision, passion, graft - a real privilege to work with you, Jo!

Always good when you discover an organisation is looking at adopting the Butterfly Scheme because someone working at a member hospital has recommended it #dementia #care #hospital

Well done to Nina Warhurst and #BBCBreakfast for a very sensible, sensitive, well-expressed and helpful piece this morning about LPAs and how tough it is for carers trying to support loved ones without an LPA.

Post-pandemic care restoration is one thing, but new hospital #Dementia Leads coming into role and finding nothing at all in place - and no ambition from bosses to actually put anything in place - is quite another. It’s happening all the time now - like slipping back 10 yrs.

It’s always uplifting when someone who’s had @ButterflyScheme at their previous organisation recommends it at their new one - but when the newly-appointed Lead there has also passionately recommended it for the same reason, that’s special! Loved finding this out today! #dementia

The person-centred care document people with #dementia and their #carers have in #hospital belongs to them; it is not part of the hospital’s own documentation for electronic access only. They and the entire staff team need constant access to read/amend it. #wholeteamdementiacare

What an excellent morning! Liaised about the smoothest #dementia care leadership takeover ever, in one of the member Trusts - then a superb session with a new Lead in another Trust who I just know is set to shine. That you to both new Butterfly Scheme Leads. Brilliant!

Sincere thanks to Janice for having the generosity to share her experiences; in doing so, she helps others gain valuable insight into life with #dementia. Janice, your hard work is appreciated - and hearing about Eric’s care is very special, too. Love to you both xx

Wouldn’t it be great if everyone living with #dementia had access to this wonderful support?
Happy new year! 🎉 Back in 1992 there were only two dementia specialist Admiral Nurses. Today, we're delighted to have 409 nurses providing life-changing support for families affected by #dementia. We’re excited to see how this number grows over the next year 💙

I’m aghast at a BBC news report looking at a hospital A & E Department, talking repeatedly about “dementia patients”. They’re patients living with #dementia, in hospital to be treated for something else. Would they call all diabetics “diabetes patients”?

And I won’t comment on the situations described in the article, involving those obviously very distressed patients with dementia. It’s not a hospital I’m involved with.
At this morning’s virtual gathering of Butterfly Scheme Leads, we had people leading at hospitals in Scotland, England, Wales and Ireland. Such a privilege to be able to gather them in one “room” and have their combined participation 😊
As always when I meet up with a group of Butterfly Scheme Leads, I feel massively fortunate to be collaborating with such fabulous advocates for people living with #dementia. Thank you to all who took part in this morning’s session. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Teams meeting with an Irish Dementia Lead included the hugely uplifting news that she even ran out of leaflets on a #dementia information stand last month. Not long ago at all, people in that part of Ireland rarely talked about dementia; she had conversations all day. Progress!

Excellent session with an incoming Butterfly Scheme Lead this morning! Absolutely brilliant when you just know this person’s going to make a massive difference in the whole quality of a Trust’s #dementia care.
