MODEL UPDATE!!!
Folks,
I’ve spent the past month doing an extensive update of the league translations, incorporating a more extensive methodology that is more adaptable on a YoY basis. It now uses a moving yearly average, prior translations were era based (1990s, 2000s, 2010s etc.) As a result, the model has gone through its biggest update since Hockey Prospecting was first launched in 2020.
Certain leagues like the J20 (Sweden), QMJHL and US National Development Program are stronger than their original translations in the model. Leagues like the WHL, OHL and KHL are starting to decline in strength. Approx. 80% to 90% of the players saw no or a very negligible change to their profile, but you’ll notice some players have moved a bit in terms of their equivalencies and probabilities.
I’ve noticed a few relatively recent draftees that have already established themselves as stars look more favorable at the time of the draft now (Sanderson, Stutzle, Zegras, Caufield, W. Nylander and L. Hutson to name a few). FWIW, to provide a bit of context, the model is trained off of 1990 to 2015 draft data to 'predict the next ones.'

The boys at @FNBarnBurner mentioned the Flames drafted more players from the HP 2024 Top 32 than any other team. And I was curious who's drafted the most from the HP Top 32s over the years.
Here's a look at 2020 to 2025...

Teams like the Sharks, Blackhawks, Canadiens, Ducks and Blue Jackets were drafting at the top end a lot.
But the Wild, Flames and Hurricanes were not.
Interesting to see visually.

REVISED HOCKEY PROSPECTING 2026 TOP 32 DRAFT RANKINGS
Its actually a top 35 this year. There's a lot of really great looking pieces in this draft, I've added 4 new names and couldn't decide which 4 to remove so I've adjusted to a Top 35 this year!
Elofsson, Aaram-Olsen, Hermansson and Macbeath were added.
Roobroeck has fallen out.
Cullen is the prospect from the original list that has shot up the most.

After the model update, there's no way I can keep Axel Elofsson out of the HP Top 32. He's tiny but there's a place for him in today's NHL. Doesn't hurt that EP describes him as one of the most offensively talented dmen in the draft. We like.

Adam Fox's projection at the draft improved notably in the model.
The Flames walked out of the 2016 draft with this. Draft for the ages.

Matthew Tkachuk is now one of these. He looked great at the time of the draft already. Never should have made it to 6th overall... but now I am even less surprised he ended up a point per game superstar in the show.
