ALT Heidi is a researcher at the Institute of Excellence in Health Equity (IEHE) at NYU and a PhD Candidate with the University of Queensland. Clinically, Heidi has extensive experience as a Nutritionist and is, therefore, researching how Dietary Health Professionals talk about behaviour change. The data session will feature video-recorded excerpts from a corpus of 1:1 clinical diabetic healthcare interactions within a community-based type 2 diabetes clinic in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. The Data will feature adults living with Type-2 diabetes interacting with a clinical dietitian, with dietary health behaviour talk featuring moralistic self-disclosures.
ALT Taiane Malabarba is a Postdoctoral researcher at the Interactional Linguistics Center, at the University of Potsdam, Germany. One of her research interests lie at the intersection of social interaction and second language acquisition/teaching. Taiane will present screen-recorded L2 German lessons done via Zoom, with an experienced teacher and two adult learners.
ALT Katherina (Lecturer in Applied Linguistics, Newcastle University) is a Latin American classroom interaction researcher and teacher trainer. She is applying CA to teacher training in her Anid/Fondecyt Initiation in Research Project. The data extract was collected in a public high school in southern Chile and features an English as a Foreign Language pre-service teacher during a practicum session​.
ALT Ann Weatherall has published on a wide range of interactional data using conversation analysis. Much of her work is inspired by women’s issues including calls to the police about family harm, feminist personal safety training and women in labour in birthing units. This session addresses a different albeit equally important matter – that of community sustainability. The aim of the study is to better understand the social value of charity retail. The data are video recordings of interactions at a charity shop counter.
