#radonc is once again among the most competitive specialties, and ranks among some of the most competitive surgical subspecialties.
𝗠𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘀: Medscape ranks competitiveness using Step 2 CK scores unmatched US MD rates, and the data is intriguing. 📊 Top Specialties (CK Score | Unmatched US MD %) • Plastic Surgery → ~260–265 | ~25–30% unmatched • Neurosurgery → ~255–260 | ~15–20% unmatched • Dermatology → ~260 | ~20–25% unmatched • Orthopedic Surgery → ~255–260 | ~20–22% unmatched • ENT (Otolaryngology) → ~255–260 | ~20–25% unmatched • Interventional Radiology → ~255 | ~15–20% unmatched • Thoracic Surgery → ~250–255 | ~15–20% unmatched • Vascular Surgery → ~250–255 | ~10–15% unmatched • Radiation Oncology → ~250 | ~10–15% unmatched • General Surgery (Categorical) → ~245–250 | ~10–15% unmatched 📌 Key Takeaways • Most competitive fields demand Step 2 CK ~255–270 • Unmatched rates often exceed 20% even for strong applicants • These specialties have few positions high applicant density ⚠️ Bottom line: Even top-tier candidates are not guaranteed a match, this is elite-level competition with real risk. medscape.com/s/p11/10-most-c… #Match2027 #MedTwitter #MedEd

I’ve known @EvanThomas84 for approximately 15 years, and I will share that he is no ordinary #radonc. He earned three engineering degrees before his medical degree, and is one of the most curious and caring people I have ever met. I am proud to say he and I have been mentoring each other throughout our friendship, and I can’t think of anyone who has taught me more about innovative approaches to medical care than him. As much as he and I care deeply about people with cancer, we also care about all people who are suffering. That is why he has been pioneering the use of high-energy medical x-rays to treat benign diseases for over a decade, first at @UABradonc and then at @OhioStateRadOnc. It doesn’t take much for a #radonc to adapt their prescriptions to treat benign disease as Dr. Thomas is doing; it just takes will, common sense, and an open mindset to remember we have a very safe, highly advanced, multi-million-dollar linac in our offices that can help those in need. At the end of the day, all #radoncs are physicians with an extraordinary opportunity to improve the QOL of our patients and help them live the best lives they can in the face of debilitating malignant and benign diseases. Whether we leverage our technology to help them is a decision each of us has to make for ourselves. @SameerKeoleMD @NehaVapiwala @jmmrad @sueyom @BarbaraJereczek @Mat_Guc
I am thrilled to announce that Renaissance Institute completed the initial phase of its first course of LDRT for an #Alzheimers patient today. The patient began the treatment course with a MOCA of 15, complete anosmia & ageusia, and A&Ox1. By the end of Renaissance-modified treatment fractionation, the patient had recovered their sense of taste, was A&Ox4, able to remember my staff’s names, and MOCA improved to 19. We look forward to opening this new & innovative fractionation scheme in the upcoming LDRT-MIND trial. #radonc #neurology #dementia
