Today at OHS...We stand with the Universal Ostrich Farm in Edgewood, BC. Part of a letter sent to CFIA September 21, 2025:
The Okanagan Humane Society requests a further stay for the Ostrich Farm Cull, and calls for a scientific review of this and the protocols and processes which have lead to the decisions made by CFIA, including disclosure of the scientific basis leading to the decisions made.
The owners and residents in these communities and across the world are not being given sound, logistical reasoning for the cull and do not understand why retesting the animals is not being allowed.
If all the birds in the flock are healthy and there are no positive tests for Avian flu in them currently how is this justified?
Respectfully please pause this order further and conduct a full review.
The world is letting us know with hundreds of phone calls and emails today that they are watching. The Okanagan Humane Society continues to advocate for the flock and to request testing and sound reasoning for the cull.
