The Continental Soldier (1775–1783)
The Minutemen grew up. Washington knew militia alone wouldn’t beat the British—so we made an Army.
Weapon: Brown Bess musket, bayonet, flintlock pistol
Wars: American Revolution
Notable Battles: Trenton, Saratoga, Yorktown
Uniform: Blue coats (when they had them), grit when they didn’t
Doctrine: Linear volleys, bayonet charges, and holding the line even when barefoot in snow
These were America’s first professional Soldiers—trained, drilled, and ready to fight a European power on its own terms.
They crossed the Delaware in freezing rain, marched on bloody feet, and wintered at Valley Forge with more frostbite than food.
They didn’t fight for a paycheck. They fought for an idea. And somehow, between dysentery, debt, and constant desertion… they still won.
