Went to write about @IndStBasketball coach Josh Schertz’s offense. Asked him about playing tennis as a child. He ended up telling me a story even his best friends in the sport do not know. Honored to tell it. theathletic.com/5238989/2024…

CJ with the elite comparison of Villanova to the legendary Tom Emanski baseball instructional videos😂 Shouts to the Crime Dog Fred McGriff. Who in CBB is doing pump fake/jump stop/pivot series as good as Nova? As Keith Sweat says "Nobodyyy" 😂
How much is the Villanova way still influencing the Nova Knicks? I asked a few guys who were apart of those Nova teams. Story is free to read: nytimes.com/athletic/7355226…

Seen a lot of folks questioning Fox taking the layup and not holding onto ball and getting fouled. I don’t hate taking for sure points in that spot. But he slightly hesitates and takes a wrong-footed layup. Think he miscalculated OG’s chances of contesting.
One last thing from last night that I thought was a mistake in real time: Fox commits the foul to give here. Knicks probably call timeout because they have no advantage. Then would have been able to give foul on inbound and give Knicks even less time to execute.

Glad to have this angle. Couldn’t believe didn’t replay on telecast. Two things Harper probably wishes he’d done. 1. Ask for room behind him and take a step back. 2. Fake a pass to move KAT’s hands. Very smart to put KAT on ball.

Told my son “glad you didn’t have school today. Probably would have gone to bed early.” His response: “Oh my gosh, I would prefer no one even tell me it happened if I missed that. I would have recorded and watched this morning, but it’s just not the same.” That’s my boy.
One of my favorite parts of NBA Finals being in June is there’s no school tomorrow and wasn’t even the thought of telling my 11-year-old he needed to go to bed. Got to watch history with him.

What I love about the OG Anunoby play is he’s open calling for ball, and when he doesn’t get it, he doesn’t pout or hang his head because Brunson didn’t pass it. Immediately runs to the rim. Winning attitude.

If not for the winning tip-in, people would probably be questioning why Brunson took the shot so early. OG and Towns would have had two on one on left side. But not a terrible decision to get ball on rim with time to go and advantage on glass since two were on the ball.

Spurs actually had a brilliant play call here. Wemby’s gravity/screen had Castle open. Fake a pass to make a pass.

I was intrigued by what the backstory was for Dusty May hiring Mody Maor, a professional coach in Japan. Turns out they’ve never even met in person. On a very outside-the-box hire that shows you how May thinks: nytimes.com/athletic/7313585…
