ibal.ie/litter-survey-shows-… A new environmental survey released today revealed significant improvements with urban areas continuing to solve their litter issues. The survey, carried out by An Taisce for the Irish Business Against Litter Group, details how a trend has emerged where the majority of urban areas improved year on year in terms of littering - However, coffee cups, fast food wrappers, plastic bags and cigarette butts are still found as the main sources of litter on our streets. Did you know that your right to live in an environment free of litter and illegal waste is protected in local, national, and international law? Our guide on Littering and Illegal Dumping, part of our local environmental rights hub, can teach you about these rights: communitylawandmediation.ie/… Our monthly 'Health, Home and Your Environment' free information & advice clinic can empower you with the information needed to act against littering in your community: communitylawandmediation.ie/…

On the same day he raised the concerns, a new contract was sent to him, cutting his hours and reducing his pay. The WRC agreed that he had been unfairly penalised for raising a legitimate concern and was constructively dismissed from his job. rte.ie/news/business/2026/05…

Climate Plans should ensure government accountability on its climate action commitments, which are legally binding.

As the impacts of climate change worsen, it is vital that Climate Action Plans set out a clear roadmap for effective climate action. Climate Plans should serve as a meaningful mechanism for monitoring..

This National Volunteering Week, we want to say a huge thank you to all of the volunteers who make Community Law & Mediation’s work possible. The services that we provide would simply not be possible without the many volunteers who give so generously of their time. This includes our volunteer mediators, the lawyers who staff our clinics and, the many barristers who represent our clients on a pro bono basis and the academic experts who share their knowledge. They are the very backbone of CLM. In 2025, 99 legal professionals volunteered their time to support our free legal advice clinics, alongside 34 MII accredited volunteer mediators and conflict coaches. We are also deeply grateful to our committed board of trustees and the members of our youth advisory committee and Limerick advisory committee who provide invaluable insights to guide our work. Thank you for the vital role that you all play in supporting greater access to justice, mediation, and conflict resolution across the communities that we work with. #NVW2026 #NationalVolunteeringWeek

Yesterday marked a defining moment for collective action on climate change. The UN General Assembly voted in favour of a resolution welcoming the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on the obligations of States in respect of climate change. 🧵
The UN has welcomed the Court’s rulings, marking a major turning point for climate accountability and reinforcing States’ legal obligations to prevent further climate harm! Today, we reaffirm not only the ICJ ruling, but also the power of multilateralism and global unity. 🇺🇳✊

Yesterday's resolution endorses the opinion by calling on States to comply with these legal obligations. It urges States to implement measures to achieve the Paris Agreement’s temperature goal and underscores the importance of a just transition away from fossil fuels.

These calls echo what we are asking the Irish Government to do in our legal challenge to the Climate Action Plan 2024. Alongside a child, a youth climate activist and a grandfather, we are challenging the plan on the basis it lacks a clear roadmap for achieving targets and this constitutes a breach of human rights. Ireland voted in favour of the resolution. It is now time for the Government to operationalise what it voted for by implementing measures to protect communities from climate harm.
