Beginning today Charlotte Water will implement mandatory water restrictions to help protect our region’s water supply. These measures are an important step to reduce non-essential water use and ensure we can meet the needs of our growing community, especially during changing conditions. This week is National Police Week – a time to honor the service and sacrifice of the men and women of @CMPD and law enforcement agencies across the country. We also remember those who gave their lives in the line of duty and stand with the families who carry the legacy forward. Thank you for your service and commitment to our community.

Today, we’re proud to welcome #NavyWeek to Charlotte! This weeklong visit gives our community a chance to connect with the men and women who serve our country and to learn more about the Navy’s mission around the world. It was an honor to present the official #NavyWeek proclamation to Captain Smith, a Matthews native and NC State graduate whose leadership and service make our region proud. Charlotte is grateful to host these sailors and to recognize their dedication, professionalism, and commitment to protecting our nation.

Charlotte has lost a dedicated public servant and dear friend in former Council Member Charlie Dannelly. Charlie’s life was defined by service as a teacher, principal, council member, and state senator. He believed deeply in education and community, and his impact will be felt for generations. I’ll remember his kindness, wisdom, and steady leadership. My heartfelt condolences to his family and all who loved him.

Our community continues to have questions and concerns about plans for the I-77 South Toll Lane Project. I’ve spoken with North Carolina Transportation Secretary Daniel Johnson, who appreciates our concerns. I believe that definitive action needs to occur in the short-term to further engage with our community. Secretary Johnson has committed to meeting with neighborhood leaders from communities that would be impacted by this project. Secretary Johnson has shared that there remains time to incorporate community feedback and identify solutions. I have also referred this item to the next meeting of the Transportation, Planning & Development Committee, which is scheduled for March 5, and we have invited NCDOT to attend the meeting to explain the process and next steps. We will continue to make sure that our community’s perspectives, concerns and needs are shared with NCDOT, state leaders and federal leaders.

Reverend Jesse Jackson’s passing is a moment to pause and reflect on the profound impact he had on our nation. He devoted his life to moving America closer to equality, opening doors that had long been closed to Black Americans and so many others. I had the privilege of meeting him on several occasions, and I was always struck by his energy and unwavering belief in what was possible. Today, Charlotte joins communities across the country in honoring Reverend Jackson’s extraordinary legacy and lasting influence.

The Charlotte region just ranked second in the nation for job growth last year, trailing only New York City, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (@BLS_gov). This momentum means tens of thousands of new jobs, and we’re committed to making sure this growth reaches every Charlottean.
