Japanese have learned about spoiling your dinner with chips and salsa. Getting the true Texan experience
USA. A Mexican restaurant. We had not yet ordered anything, and the food was already arriving. Chips. Salsa. Unrequested. Free. I stopped the waiter. "We have not earned these." "They just come with the table, man." They come with the TABLE. In my land, hospitality is a debt. Every gift creates an obligation, weighed carefully, returned in the proper season with interest of feeling. Here, the gift arrives before you have even proven you can pay for dinner. This is not an appetizer. This is a declaration: we trust you. Eat. I ate with the gravity the moment deserved. And then — I must report this calmly — the basket emptied, and a new one appeared. "Did we…?" "Refill," the waiter said. "It's bottomless." Bottomless. They have wells of salsa. The supply lines of this nation are beyond anything my ancestors imagined. My friend warned me. "Don't fill up on chips, dude." Too late. I had accepted three baskets. Honor demanded each one be finished — an unfinished gift is an insult. By the time my actual food arrived, I was a ruined man. I was not hungry. I was not comfortable. I had been defeated by a courtesy. Generosity that arrives before the request cannot be repaid. It can only be survived. I know the rule now. I have made my peace with the basket. One basket. Two at the most. Who am I deceiving. There is no number of baskets I would refuse. The trust of a nation is in that salsa, and I intend to honor all of it.

This is the way, folks.
Exciting news: Politico’s Morning Score exclusively covered WJN Action’s new memo on aspirational populism this morning. The memo makes a simple case: We’re in a populist moment. But the question for Democrats isn’t just whether to embrace populism. It’s what kind.

Unbelievably, Secretary Rollins just claimed that "no one has been kicked off SNAP." Under H.R. 1, low-income people are losing food assistance at the fastest rate in decades — even as the economy hasn't improved & grocery prices are rising. cbpp.org/research/food-assis…

Tell me you’re bankrupt of ideas or accomplishments without telling me you’re bankrupt of ideas or accomplishments.
So is the “He’s Gay” line of attack going to be the main one this cycle, or are Republicans workshopping any other stuff?

While #TX23 is in fear about new world screwworm, the most radical House GOP members are throwing their weight behind @TheAKGuy. They know he's a fringe extremist who will stand in lockstep with their dangerous agenda that's driving up costs for Texans. fox40.com/hill-politics/free…

Ossoff: Last September, the President of Kazakhstan calls Donald Trump and says he wants to grant tungsten mining rights to an American company. And the very next month, Eric and Don Jr. get a stake in the American company pursuing the mining deal. Six days later, six days after Prince Eric and Prince Don get their stake, Kazakhstan announces this company will get, “The largest known undeveloped tungsten resource in the world.” A few more weeks go by, and then the U.S. government, run by their father, sets aside 1.6 billion of your tax dollars to fund and finance their mining project. In Kazakhstan. All this while you pay more for gas, for groceries, for health care, and that's just the tip of the iceberg.
