Also, how was this $ determined? The AB Mines & Minerals Act permits the Minister to cancel coal leases, & only requires repayment of what the company's already paid the Crown—NOT hypothetical lost profits.
If taxpayers are paying more than what’s legally required, why??

Why do we talk so much about the #EasternSlopes?
One reason: they provide 80% of #Alberta's water.
Another reason: Despite how essential these headwaters are to all of us, they continue to be threatened by coal, clear cuts and commercialization.
It can't go on like this.
