It was great to speak at the
@CPCatapult 2026
#ConnectedPlaces Summit yesterday with South Yorkshire Mayor
@olivercoppard to set out what we have achieved in
@NewhamLondon and how we’ve intentionally driven inclusive growth 🚀
✅ We’re proving that place-based strategies, linking high-growth sectors like green tech & digital to local skill, are the key to unlocking the UK’s economic potential.
What does that mean for London and other regions in the UK?
➡️ Newham proves that London can help close the national economic gap by acting as an engine that shares success through supply chains, knowledge spillovers, and investment partnerships.
➡️ Our success is most valuable when it is connected outward, rather than operating as a standalone economy.
➡️ Move from ‘projects’ to ‘outcomes’. Every infrastructure investment must clearly link to jobs, productivity, and sustainable growth.
➡️ To keep talent and capital in the UK, we need dense innovation ecosystems where housing, transit, and workspace co-exist.
➡️ We must move past ‘London vs. the rest of the UK’ thinking. We must use London as a national engine, sharing success through innovation spillovers and regional partnerships.
➡️ The goal? A 10-20 year vision that ends "stop-start" funding and puts inclusive growth at the heart of our industrial strategy.
Let’s build a future where infrastructure isn't just about transit: it's about opportunity for all.
We Are Newham👌🏽✨
