More redundancies announced in DPFEM and even nurses in Health to be impacted. There are millions worth of efficiencies that can be made without cutting jobs, but the 'quick fix' is all this government seems capable of. Proper management of the public sector - not so much.

How many Ministers have now stood down from cabinet of this government? I have honestly lost count. That really should be more shocking then it is #politas

Now the Premier is defending the creation of Associate Secretaries ‘as no overall increase in numbers’. Might not increase the numbers but a BIG payrise. He approves those positions but refuses to pay Worksafe Inspectors more, despite fact we can’t keep Inspectors once trained.

Kristie Johnston……asking about impacts of certain DPAC functions moving to agencies (FV, Aging etc) Missing piece is that these functions were in DCT, that agency was abolished, then sent to DPAC or DSG now getting moved again.

The Premier not doing much to squash the rumour we abolished DSG as he wanted to get rid of the HofA. Interestingly this was the rumor when they abolished DCT as well #politas

Another Dorthy Dixor this time about resilience and emergency management. Again Premier answers with a straight face while we are cutting NRE Tas, the key agency for managing emergencies on managed land. 2/3 of this state #politas

Just after Premier’s team talk about how not backfilling positons as a cost cutting excercise. Then the Premier answers a Dorthy Dixor on FV. With zero reflection on fact that 1/5 positons in Family Violence Counselling Support Service are vacant #politas

1800 job cuts are over the next 5 years. But even if agencies cut 1800 jobs today that is only half the $1.4BN being cut. The math isn’t stacking. The lack of transparency is astounding #politas

Yes…Kristie Johnston….asking if the government has a strategy around workforce. The answer was long, but I think maybe in some areas. We are making large scale redundancies and we don’t have a whole of service strategy to ensure needed skills don’t walk out the door 🤯 #politas

@DavidOByrneMP asking the right questions. 500 TNVR now a target across the public sector #politas. Is the 250 in DSG in addition? HofSS talks about ability for some agencies to have 10-20% natural attrition which may or may not be back filled #politas

Premier, AI ‘won’t replace human decision making or humans - we will hold you to that committment. But the messaging in the State Budget seems contrary to that assertion #politas

Can’t say I am impressed with parliamentarians looking for political gotcha when the budget include $1.4BN of cuts. Let’s ask about that #politas

Does the Treasurer even clock the ridiculousness of talking about doing things better and more efficiently while cutting ‘back office’ jobs. Who does ‘reform’.

This is not the brag you think it is. An increase in taxes, is a lot cheaper for households then finding the $$$ for private speech pathology for your kid. Waiting for weeks for permits due to understaffing, costing bussiness in time. Unable to leave a FV situation as housing.
Last week’s Federal Budget slugged Australians with $77bn in new taxes. Today’s Tasmanian Budget has zero.

At the TCCI breakfast I would love to ask the room what organisations and employers have got hand outs in the last 10 years that were ‘nice to have’ but ‘not essential’. More then happy to take the hand outs and let (Tasmanians) pay #politas

Yesterday the government announced 148 voluntary redundancies from DSG, is the plan that there will be no analysis of the work required and impact of losing those people? There are some funtions that are done by very small group of people, losing them would be a very big issue.
the last time we had an operational efficiency budget (under labor) they said no frontline staff. I lost staff to voluntary redundancy and the deal was those positions were cut permanently and couldn't be replaced. #politas abc.net.au/news/2026-05-21/t…

@thirza_white on today’s budget: “For the past five years, we’ve had a premier that’s been like a bloke at the pub who’s shouting rounds to all his mates. Meanwhile, his family is at home, the rent’s overdue, the electricity has been cut off, and the cupboards are bare.”#politas

Huge turnout in the south today. It’s time to bridge the wage and conditions gap to recruit and retain staff and so Tasmanians have access to services they need and want. #politas

Independent David O’Byrne has asked the Premier about intensifying public sector wage negotiations, saying mentioning good faith negotiations means little without action and that the ongoing dispute can’t continue, he asked what the plans is to resolve it @7tasnews #politas
