Dexter Resurrection

“If i really am who you think i am. This can’t possibly end well for you”
It’s the best 50 Minutes to be spent. It’s a literal thing of beauty. I’ve expressed my joy for Resurrection time & time again, but this is just ridiculous. I physically can’t process the fact the magic i’m currently experiencing.
I’ve realised more than ever how much i love the manner in which this show handles the legacy of Dexter. The grizzled old man, the veteran getting back into the game. The Dexter i’ve spent hours upon hours with feels so unbelievably Rejuvenated to the point where i really believe this is my favourite version of the character. He’s got the history, he’s experienced all the rights and all the wrongs, but he doesn’t have the physical strength or the perfectionist environment he did in Miami, it’s just so fucking exciting to watch in a way i couldn’t have imagined.
Where the legacy aspect really shines for me is how reactive this world feels to The Bay Harbour Butcher, we’re so far removed from the original series where he was making his name and more than ever that name holds a frightening feel wherever it’s mentioned. Dexter’s pure annoyance towards Doakes for getting credit for his work is one of the best character traits, and when he gets to play his true self he becomes so alive, it’s never been more satisfying to watch.
Batista has worked in the background for the most part so far but this is the one where he finally confronts Dexter again and the result is one of the fucking greatest scenes Dexter has ever produced. The tension in the house, the warning shot in the car, the music and the dialogue as the credits roll. That is television greatness i can’t come up with enough words for it.
Dexter in the company of those Serial Killers and Prater is so effortlessly captivating. Watching the full group get cut down one by one as Dexter arrives, the twist and turns the way he baits himself into playing his game, it’s just the best. And the backstory given to Prater in this episode was exactly what i needed, i’ve enjoyed his character up until this point and it feels like the turning point, the idea that he isn’t a Serial Killer but he’s equally as psychotic is a great change of pace. It’s Dexter so in a way i know what to expect but i also don’t, really intrigued by what these final 3 episodes look like for his character.
Harrison and specifically his relationship with Dexter is outstanding man. They’re genuinely becoming everything i had hoped and it couldn’t be better timed. The scene at the school where Dexter tells him he’s the one thing in his life he truly loves, and Harrison being inspired to be a Cop because of Dex, that’s the kind of stuff that has so much room to grow narratively. I’ve said a lot about them beforehand so i don’t wanna repeat myself but it’s fantastic and only gets better. Once again i can’t wait to see what the final 3 episodes look like for him.
From the scene with Gemini with how genuinely intrigued and honest he was, the duality they share and the way Brian is worked into the moment. The deep conversation with Prater and getting his long awaited backstory which adds layers upon layers of depth or the outstanding scene with Batista at the end, it’s all an utter treat and once again makes me want to scream how incredible Resurrection is. I’ve sat on it for a few days but i think this might actually be my favourite episode yet.
