The
@ukhomeoffice have announced a new taskforce in conjunction with the
@PoliceChiefs and the
@CollegeofPolice to tackle Violence Against Women and Girls (
#VAWG). This central taskforce will set the standard of a new national approach and the framework for all 43 forces, in line with the governments pledge to halve VAWG over the next ten years.
‘Working closely with the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC), and the College of Policing, the Home Secretary will oversee the development of a new national approach to the use of these data-driven tools – which use computer programmes to bring together and analyse a range of police data to identify and pursue offenders involved in domestic abuse, sexual assault, harassment and stalking.’
This announcement comes at a time when VAWG offences account for 20% of all recorded crime and there has been a 366% rise in technology facilitated abuse since 2019 (Refuge) which highlights the complexity of VAWG offences.
#CSAS users at the Metropolitan Police’s Operation Atlas have transformed stalking and harassment investigations with a new approach that investigates the digital elements of these cases. Since an initial pilot study in 2022, the team have gone from strength to strength and their work is now being show-cased by the College of Policing as best practice for tackling this area of VAWG.
