Had to respond to a friend who accused me of being blind to truth about the Karmelo Anthony case because of my profession. My response to him and anyone else with this mindset is as follows : “The most disrespectful comments usually start with “With all due respect.” No. I am a Black man who happens to be a police officer. My law enforcement JOB, doesn’t minimize my opinion. It actually strengthens it as I have get to see things from all perspectives while you are limited to what you are told to think as a Black person. You are conditioned to only see things through a racial lens first. The same lens I was indoctrinated to see things through until I saw the other side. Choosing logic over emotion doesn’t make me less Black or make me forget what it is to be Black. While you are led by your feelings, I am enhanced with the knowledge, understanding and practical application of the law. Regardless of my complexion, 2 2 will always be 4. The sun will rise in the east and set in the west. It will be hot in the summer and cold in the winter and…. If you stab someone for just pushing you, you will be charged. Some things are just what they are and have zero to do with race but personal actions and choices. Karmelo Anthony’s supporters are now threatening to riot and burn down cities after he was found guilty. Riots for what? Do y’all think it’s okay for a Black person to kill a white person with no consequences? That is racist. Somebody lost their son. Somebody lost their child. Austin Metcalf is never coming home. The only people who should be angry, sad, heartbroken, and devastated right now are Austin Metcalf’s parents. They lost their son. This should have never been turned into a race issue. It was not about Black versus white. Wrong is wrong. You do not get to stab somebody to death and then have people threaten to riot because justice was served. Karmelo Anthony was found guilty. Justice was served.

The truth is that there are VASTLY more hate crimes, especially aggravated rape and murder, per person by Blacks against Whites than the other way around. The is not remotely debatable, as the numbers are so extremely lopsided!

The shelter closed an hour ago. No Lucy today. That means the county has now held her for at least a full week after I signed a deal I didn’t like, all because I convinced myself it was the fastest way to get her out. Time was on my side. A machine that grinds slowly, impersonally, and without mercy, even when every human being involved knows the right thing to do. That kind of enemy is the one diligent little sheepdogs like Lucy and Snuggles were never built to fight. Their loyalty, their courage, their sharp instincts - none of these things matter against paperwork and policy and the slow, soulless turning of bureaucratic gears. And that’s what is on my mind as another day turns to night and Lucy remains in her cramped, little cell.
