DAY 12 - Manchester to London
In conjunction with Mental Health Awareness Week, various movements and initiatives surfaced globally to elevate the conversation around mental health. One significant action was spearheaded by Figen Murray OBE, who embarked on a remarkable journey from Manchester to London, traversing over 230 miles on foot. Figen's purpose behind this extraordinary trek was to raise awareness and emphasise to the government the urgent need for Martyn's Law.
Martyn's Law, named in memory of Martyn Hett, a victim of the Manchester Arena bombing in 2017, calls for improved security measures at public venues to ensure the safety of individuals attending events. Figen Murray's walk symbolised a powerful statement, demonstrating a determined effort to advocate for necessary changes in security protocols to prevent future tragedies and prioritise public safety.
By taking on this physically and mentally demanding challenge, Figen Murrays exemplified the resilience and dedication needed to champion important causes, especially those related to mental health and security. Her initiative raised awareness about Martyn's Law and accentuated the significance of engaging in impactful actions to address issues that affect our well-being and safety as a society.
As we reflect on the events and initiatives that unfolded during this significant week, we are reminded of our collective responsibility to promote mental health awareness and create a more inclusive and supportive environment for all.
