Not the prettiest sight… but one of the coolest clues in nature. 👀 Owl pellets might look a little gross but they tell an incredible story. Birds like the great horned owl swallow their prey whole, then later regurgitate the indigestible parts like bones, fur and feathers. Each pellet is like a snapshot of what that owl has been eating, from small mammals to birds, and even insects. It’s a reminder of the important role owls play in keeping ecosystems balanced. If you ever come across one, take a closer look (from a safe distance). You never know what you might discover. #birding

Congratulations to @CVC_CA and Trees for Life on this wonderful partnership, which will see approximately 24,000 native trees and shrubs planted over the next three years. This investment will help strengthen the health of the natural systems that connect our communities. Native trees clean our air and water, provide habitat for wildlife, reduce flooding and erosion, and help make our neighbourhoods more resilient to a changing climate. Here in Mississauga, and especially in Ward 9, we're incredibly fortunate to be surrounded by beautiful natural spaces that are part of the Credit River watershed. Lake Aquitaine, for example, is much more than a scenic destination. It's an important stormwater management lake, collecting and filtering runoff before the water eventually makes its way to the Credit River. It's a wonderful reminder that our parks, wetlands, and waterways are all connected, and that by protecting and restoring nature today, we're investing in a healthier, more resilient community for generations to come. #Mississauga #Ward9 #CreditValley #TreePlanting #Nature #Community #ClimateResilience

Partnerships are at the heart of conservation success and this week we are proud to celebrate the collective effort behind the transformation of the new Jim Tovey Lakeview Conservation Area. As we reflect on the successful grand opening of the new Jim Tovey Lakeview Conservation Area, CVC and Credit Valley Conservation Foundation (CVCF) would like to recognize and thank the many valued partners and contributors who helped bring this project to life through funding, materials, restoration support and community partnerships: • Lakeview Village • Swim Drink Fish Canada • Bird Canada • Ontario Power Generation • Canadian Wildlife Federation / Fédération canadienne de la faune • Green Star Construction • Metric • Gateman Milloy Inc. From native seed funding and tree planting support to donated materials that helped shape the landscape itself, these contributions are helping create healthier habitats, stronger shoreline connections and new opportunities for people to connect with nature along the Lake Ontario waterfront. Thank you for being part of this important milestone!

What a weekend for community action! Our volunteers made a meaningful impact across the Credit River Watershed starting with Saturday’s Invasive Species Pull where volunteers were welcomed CVC Board Vice Chair and Mississauga Councillor Alvin Tedjo and thanked volunteers for their efforts to remove invasive species in the marsh. Volunteers removed an impressive 7,000 square metres of invasive garlic mustard, celandine and dames rocket at Rattray Marsh Conservation Area. Then on Sunday at the Alton Community Tree Planting, volunteers planted 175 native trees and shrubs. A special thank you to the Canadian Gujarati Association of Ontario for bringing together such an enthusiastic group of volunteers in Alton. These efforts help improve habitat, support biodiversity and strengthen local ecosystems for years to come. Visit our events calendar to join us at an event in your community: cvc.ca/events/

Starting the work week with a fawn sighting? Yes, please!🙋 This young white-tailed deer is a gentle reminder that nature is all around us, even in the places we work. June is fawn season, so if you spot a fawn resting quietly on its own, remember that its mother is likely nearby and keeping watch from a distance. 🦌 Learn more about #wildlife encounters: cvc.ca/conversations/spring-…

Starting tomorrow, we will be completing line painting on the trails at Jim Tovey Lakeview Conservation Area. The work will take place from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily and visitors can expect rolling trail closures. All affected areas will be fully closed to the public during the week, re-opening Fridays at 5 p.m. and on weekends. We anticipate the project will occur in three phases and take three weeks to complete. We thank you for your patience as we continue to finalize trail work at this newly opened park. Please check our Park Advisories daily for updates on which sections of trails are affected by the work: cvc.ca/park-advisories/
