Sound on 🔊- It’s always incredible to hear the 🇨🇦-built Avro Lancaster VR-A roar over head , for the first time each summer. #avgeek

82 years ago today, Canadian mid-upper gunner Andrew Mynarski lost his life after he and his crew of RCAF Lancaster VR-A, KB726 departed Middleton St. George late the night before on their 13th sortie. The target was to be the rail marshalling yards at Cambrai, France. 1/3

Andrew Mynarski was awarded the Victoria Cross, the Commonwealth’s highest award for gallantry, when his Lancaster was shot down in flames by a German night fighter. As the bomber fell, he attempted to free the tail gunner, 2/3

… Pat Brophy, trapped in the rear turret of the blazing and out of control aircraft. The tail gunner miraculously survived the crash and lived to tell the story, but sadly Andrew Mynarski died from his severe burns.

To celebrate the Snowbirds' 55th season, we have temporarily marked one side of our Lancaster in the scheme of a wartime 431 Sqn RCAF aircraft, the same squadron as the Snowbirds. See them together on ground display on June 17! 🎟️ Tickets/Details at warplane.com/events/upcoming… 1/2

Canadian-built Lancaster KB773 served at Croft, Yorkshire, England, and returned to 🇨🇦 after the war having participated in 46 operations. These markings depict the aircraft as it would have appeared after 32 missions in honour of the Bomber Command crews of 431 Sqn 2/2

What do the Snowbirds and Lancasters have in common? The Snowbirds are 431 Air Demonstration Squadron. During World War II, 431 Sqn RCAF operated Lancasters (and Wellingtons and Halifaxes). See them together on ground display on June 17! Tickets/Info: warplane.com/events/upcoming…

June 6, 1944 - D-Day - considered as the beginning of the end of World War II. Our D-Day veteran Dakota FZ692 flies in honour of the Allied troops, many of whom were Canadians. The losses were high. 82 years later, we remember their service , duty, and sacrifice. Lest we forget.

The PBY-5A Canso and C-47 Dakota from @CWHM flew over last night’s @Ticats game during the anthem. It was great to see these passes from the edge of the escarpment. #avgeek
