Largest US power grid auction prices rise by 22% to new heights due to energy-guzzling AI data centers. Its another rate hike caused by Big Tech and socialized onto all ratepayers. We need to stop AI data centers if we want an affordable, reliable, and sustainable power grid.

It’s very telling that in our technology-obsessed age, tech that could actually seriously improve our lives—like CO2 monitors and upgraded HVAC systems—are ignored by the powers that be. There’s no money to be made in actually improving the world!
Purchased an air quality monitor, turns out my office has more CO2 than the Jurassic period. “Brain cognitive function decreases by 50%” 🤯 Why aren’t more ppl talking about this

America is finally being run like a business: a business acquired by private equity that’s being stripped for parts before being liquidated.

An important lens for the coming years. The oil industry doesn’t want drill, baby, drill. It isn’t itching to increase supply. It wants new demand. And AI is the ticket.
I wrote about one of the more unsettling parts of Trump 2.0: the unholy, AI-fueled alliance between tech and fossil fuel interests

weird that the Senate’s “only aerial firefighter” doesn’t know LA Lahaina wildfires weren’t USFS ground or responsibility. 🤔 (Unlike Dixie, Hermit’s Peak, dozens of other exs.) The amount of misinformation/disinformation going around the wildfire space right now is…a lot.
In the wake of LA, Lahaina, and many other disasters, it’s clear the USFS has been delinquent in one of their core duties - protecting Americans.

Really embarrassing. The Seattle Mariners are an investment firm that occasionally plays baseball. King County should revoke their lease to the stadium. Also I can’t wait for the season to start.

So maybe the people who regurgitated industry claims about AI innovation inevitably requiring an enormous build-out of resource-intensive data centers were wrong?

“It’s not really enjoyable to make music now… it takes a lot of time, it takes a lot of practice, you have to get really good at an instrument or really good at a piece of production software. I think the majority of people don’t enjoy the majority of time they spend making music.” Founder of @suno_ai_ @MikeyShulman Always interesting to hear someone with a completely opposite view to me.

1/ When I was reporting my book chapter about the 2017 Santa Rosa fires, I spent a lot of time in two neighborhoods that had both burned. One was dense and middle class, in flat land, the other was very wealthy and up on a hill. I want to talk a bit about this.

In the coming weeks, HuffPost is going to ax upward of one-quarter of our newsroom. Under @gzornick’s leadership, my team won awards, broke major stories and beat our monthly traffic goals by threefold. How does dismantling us serve long-term business or journalistic goals?
.@peretti will soon gut another newsroom, this time HuffPost. The cuts we heard about this week would devastate our news-gathering operation, just as Trump prepares to take office. It's a tough business and I'm not naive about cuts - but is he also another exec bowing to MAGA?

the movie makes abundantly clear, like so clear, a toddler a could understand it, that part of what upsets Seeger et al is that Bob doesn't care enough about lefty politics. (open the schools)
The ’60s folk singers didn’t hate Dylan because he went electric, as ‘A Complete Unknown’ suggests. It was because he didn’t care about their lefty politics. @mcmoynihan in @TheFP: thefp.com/p/truth-about-bob-…

You definitely don’t want the top Oversight Committee Democrat attracting media attention. That would be so déclassé. Hard to believe Trump beat this party so handily despite the talent and savvy at the top.
The cancer-stricken 74 year old Democrats chose to make the face of congressional oversight during the Trump admin is a self-described policy "wonk" who's openly critical of colleagues engaging the public in floor speeches or mass media, which he calls "performative" and "bloviating". Rep. @GerryConnolly: "I've got colleagues for whom the job is performative...bloviating on the floor or getting on cable television or something."

WE DID IT!!! New York just made history, becoming the second state in the country to pass a Climate Change Superfund Act that will #MakePollutersPay for climate damages! This kicks open the door for more states to follow. Let’s go!
New: Gov. Kathy Hochul has signed the NY climate superfund bill, which will require fossil fuel companies to put up $75B. Here’s the approval message. Sounds like there will be some yet-to-be-seen tweaks, but basic premise of the bill remains intact.
